Another step toward the goal of becoming one of the nation's premiere urban research universities:

im a memphis grad and proud of the math department, but this is the wrong board. only post this on the big east board in response to some attack on us, not as a new thread.

Yes I certainly would turn down Cal Tech,MIT,Stanford and Harvard to go to Memphis to study for a doctorate. in the area of graph theory and networks. This would happen at the same time Memphis is admitted to the BE.Have you read his book on graph theory? It is published by Springer Verlag.I think it is bit theoretical in nature. It would difficult to use his works developing algorithms procedures.

Actually, it IS a response to attacks on us. TigerShark2 and a few others have slandered UofM numerous times. I think it is important to correct the image they have attempted to portray.

Why would you do that? Those schools are ranked ahead of UofM. However, those failing to gain admission to those fine institutions, should perhaps consider Memphis ahead of the 500 or so colleges and universities ranked lower, if mathematics is their field.

Now that y'all have established Memphis' numerical superiority maybe the guppy will shut up, but I doubt it.

Magazine ratings are hardly evidence of anything. It seems to some that telling the truth is similar in nature to slander. In terms of a graph theoretical approach memphis connectivity level to the BE is very weak indeed.Gray ,Professor Bolllabas would be displeased that you have not read his text ,being that he is such an established scholar at memphis.Does Professor Bollabas attend many athletic events at memphis with you?I am much more into directed graphs as opposed non directed graphs. How about you Gray? What is your favorite type of graphical structure?

Oh yeah....b/c it's not beyond idiot fans like you to put down other schools. Then again was that you or your Athletic Director blatantly lying about how many prop48 and JUCOs USF had on it's team?

I hope the mods clean up crap like this....

I am surprised to hear you say this about US News & World Report, since you have quoted this source several times in the past in your bashing of Memphis. As for graphing, I don't claim to be a great mathematician or graph expert like you (aren't you the busy one). Ordinary two-dimensional curvilinear graphs in orthogonal coordinates are most common and usually sufficient in my field. For the most part, we use classical numerical solutions and supplement those with finite element analysis where necessary.

Do you ensure non zero sum solutions apply to the analysis?

Gray, combinatorics, graphs and networks seem to be quite different from algebra and calculus.Similarly,to the way memphis is not like the bcs teams in the BE.I guess your familarity with mathematics and combinatorics, graphs and networks is similar to your in depth knowledge of college sports.( undiracted and unconnected, just a lonely vertex point)However, this not stop you from drawing your unsupported conclusions in a null decision space.
