That's nice and all but there is no way they have anywhere close to the level of NFL talent as UNC or that you beat them on the road infront of 60k people atmosphere.

UNC might be 1-4 right now but most of that is because they have played a top 5 toughest SOS. vs South Carolina, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and ECU.

No one doubts that Ball State is good, but somewhere in there we should probably indicate that UNC has played the number 6 team (at that time) South Carolina; the number 24 team VT; the number 36 team GT; and the number 38 team ECU and Thursday night UNC has the number 13 team Miami.

Bla, bla bla. You have more excuses that a 25 year politician. Ball State has been ranked better than UNC for the entire year. They just whalloped Virginia Saturday 48-24.

What planet was this on? UNC was a contender for the ACC going into the season. They won their division last year but were on probation. They still have 8 projected draft picks including two 1st rounders and a senior QB. Virginia was supposed to be one of the worst teams in the ACC this year anyway. It's hard to respect Ball State as some great team when they lost to you guys. It almost doesn't matter what else they even do.

Tulane lost to USA.

I would bet money Ohio would beat ECU and contend for the CUSA title.

A senior QB, senior RB, and the best coach in any G5 conference outside of Petersen.
I will agree that Marshall should be ranked 2nd. Tulane has a bad loss (bad; not terrible, but bad). Ohio would probably contend well on the West side. They have a good team, and will likely win 10 games (have you seen their schedule? Yikes).

RE: CBS College Football ranking week 6
I'm confused. How can beating someone who has the 5th hardest schedule be any indicator of how good that team is unless they won games in that 5th hardest schedule. UNC has only beaten MTSU and lost the remaining four games, the closest of which was 8 points. The other losses were by 17, 10, and 24. That doesn't mean UNC is good. It means the other teams were better than UNC but does not in anyway indicate UNC is a good team. It's not like UNC played Alabama, Georgia, LSU, and Oregon well. Heck, if Kentucky had played UNC's schedule, would that mean UK is a great team?

As I and others have mentioned before, rankings are way out of wack at the moment because it's still too early to take them seriously. FWIW, ECU's last game was against a MT team that just a week or so ago was considerably higher in the rankings. They aren't now.

Just saying they were thought to have a good team coming into the year. I think it's still pretty hard to judge them or write them off at this point the up hill battle they have had. There are a lot of quality teams that would be 1-4 vs that schedule. Do you really think Ball State would have faired much better vs South Carolina, Georgia Tech, or Virginia Tech? They probably struggle to even beat ECU and MTSU. One thing is for sure, none of us have the level of NFL talent UNC has. It's not even in the same galaxy. As a 14 team conference we probably couldn't piece together a better draft class combined than they are expected to have the next 2 years. Find me 2 projected first rounders in CUSA...

On this planet oh mighty one. This site's pre-season prediction for North Carolina #57 7-5 record. Ball State #53 8-4 record. Please link one site where North Carolina is ranked higher than Ball State.

A 7-5 BCS team with UNC's schedule would likely not be ranked behind a 8-4 projected 105 SOS MAC team. Pretty much discredits this poll if that's what they truly thought.

How about Marshall's beloved Phil Steele. He had UNC 39 and Ball State 87 in the preseason.

Bla, bla bla and a lot of hot air. Link a site that has North Carolina ahead of Ball State. Right now just about everyone on the planet has Ball State ahead of North Carolina. If you can't...........01-wingedeagle

I could link multiple ones right now on Masseys' composite that have UNC ranked higher but I think their rankings are pretty ridiculous. Do you think North Texas would have beat North Carolina on the road? Do you really think Ball State would have beat South Carolina, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech or even ECU the way we were playing that day. I don't.

Who of the 89 rankers in the Massey Composites has North Carolina ranked ahead of Ball State ? Please provide links.

UNC is 0-2 in conference games and 1-1 at home vs teams it crushes in terms of revenue, resources, facilities, talent and coaches.

That's not a tough schedule, and that's not a good team.

Certainly you can't consider your OC wins as "quality wins". ODU and a 1-4 North Carolina. Ball State and Ohio are rated higher than any team ECU has beaten in 2013.

OK, but I've never heard of these folks. They are a very small minority among rankers as the vast majority have Ball State higher than North Carolina.

Yeah they crushed a pretty good MTSU team that that will likely win 7 or 8 games again this year. We are the only team they probably should have beat on paper and we played exceptional that day. I don't think any of us could match their NFL talent though combined.

Quote:That's not a tough schedule, and that's not a good team.

Whatever. They were certainly more talented than any team you've beat.

Let's put this in perspective.

UNC has 8 current projected NFL draft picks in this draft if they come out.

Ebron 1-2 round
Hurst 1-2 round
Martin 2-3 round
Scott 3 round
Boston 3-4 round
Renner 7th round
Jackson 7th round
Price 7th round

Ohio has Zero.

And people accuse me of starting crap? Really?

SJ, if a team plays Alabama, Oregon, Stanford and LSU in OOC play and goes 0-4 does that mean they are good? In your eyes it make them great because they played the #1 toughest schedule apparently.

UNC is not a good football team this year. I understand why you want to think they are, to give more value to your rare win over them, but they are not the same team they were last year. They are 1-4, probably look at 1-5. They need a heck of a run to get bowl eligible this year.

That's your MO though, overvalue everything ECU does and undervalue everything anyone else does. UNT beating Ball State is a good win.

According to Sagarin ECU has beaten #128 ODU, #97 FAU, #74 UNC and #108 MTSU. Ball State is #63. Ball State has as many FBS victories than the 4 teams you have beaten combined.
