Best Helmets of the Year - So Far....
If you saw the Notre Dame vs. Arizona State game this weekend you saw 2 very cool helmets. I loved both designs.

Notre Dame had a cool gold on gold look -

While Arizona St had some bad to the bone looking flames -

Arizona States may have looked a little like a bowling ball but all in all I thought they were great. Notre Dame won't do it but a full time change to those helmets would be a great look. Much better than the 1/3 gold, 2/3 drunk irishman they had last year.

I love everything the sun devils do in regards to their pitchfork helmets. they have a great look. still think the wku chrome helmets are the best, but that is more the logo on the side...

I wish N'western would have went with their cool N logo. the Wildcat was WAY to busy to be black on black. Had it been in charcoal or another dark grey it might have worked.

As an aside, OSU's helmets vs WVU two weeks ago were hideous. An outline of the Pistol Pete head, looked terrible. But I like that ND helmet a lot.

no no no no no no no no no no no no no...

helmets are not blank canvases to showcase an artist...they represent the school...the history...i hate all this new shiat...wear your colors...your emblem...not some tricked up idea that might sell shiat...

yes, i know that both asu and nd had their emblems on their helmets, but there was more on the asu helmet and nd is solid gold...nothing else...

Exactly my issue as well....My uncle lives about 5 minutes from the ASU and when I was a kid he took me to a few games. He would also send me ASU swag for my Christmas and Birthday presents so they were my favorite team growing up. I was heartbroken when they hired the Toad. While he is a pretty good coach and will win games I just do not respect the guy and it makes it very hard for me to root for ASU anymore.

Don't want to be an ass so I'm not responding to any pictures specifically.

I have to ask: Do 18 and 19 year olds really like this crap? Some of these are terrible.

I don't know if that is an Arizona State football helmet or "Big Ern" McCracken's bowling ball from Kingpin.

No, no, no, those Notre Dame helmets looked ridiculous. No place in football for shiny bright green face masks. The Sun Devils' helmets were likewise just too busy for my taste, and even worse, their iconic trident just gets lost in the picture. That helmet would've been better if they had limited the flames to the front of the helmet instead of all over the bloody thing. You can keep both of 'em.

I've always thought that also but have never understood the process. I did a little research and found the story linked below. I haven't really noticed, but evidently the process changed a couple of years ago. I didn't realize that their helmet paint used actual gold dust from the refurbishing of the golden dome. It must be nice to be able to have the luxury of actual gold in your helmet coating.
