I know there are a lot of Skins fans on here, i am one of them, and there are some haters, but just thought this was ridiculous. The government is shut down, we are trillions in debt, and obamacare rolls out this week, and this guy is making comments on an NFL team name. Almost every poll taken shows that people arent offended by this name. 9 out of 10 native Americans said they werent offended. I have tried not to allow some of the massive changes he has made bother me personally, but now he is messing with my football team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! crossed the line. Any thoughts out there.

This whole debate is ridiculous. The Redskins went through it in the 80's too and Native Americans stuck up for the name. If you talk to actual natives, you'll find a lot more who are proud of it than offended by it. The reason the Redskins don't still have an "R" on their helmet is because a leader of a Native American group approached them saying they would like to see it changed to what it is now.

Yeah a certain person needs to keep their nose out of it.

I googled it because I wanted to see what he said about it, here are a couple neat little bits from this article that came up about it:

An AP poll found that 4 in 5 Americans don't think the nickname should be changed.

As the Redskins pointed out in their response to Obama, a 2004 Annenberg poll found that 9 of 10 native Americans said they were not bothered by the name.

"I've talked to our students, our parents and our community about this and nobody finds any offense at all in it," said Tim Ames, the superintendent of Wellpinit schools in Washington State, which include the 91 percent native American Wellpinit High School. "'Redskins' is an honorable name we wear with pride.… In fact, I'd like to see somebody come up here and try to change it."

It's a lot easier to find natives that see it as something to be proud of than natives that see it as offensive.

I wonder how much heat they'd be under if they weren't in Washington (err...Landover for games, Richmond for training camp and Ashburn for practice). I feel like the Kansas City Redskins would rarely get heat for the name.

Well that's the thing, you've got the braves, the chiefs, the Blackhawks, ( which are from Obamas city) Seminoles etc.

Well that's the thing, you've got the braves, the chiefs, the Blackhawks, ( which are from Obamas city) Seminoles etc.

Seminoles are a pretty unique situation, but still, there are plenty of others aside from the Redskins, Redskins are the only ones you hear much about.

So while losing to the cowboys at half I have to listen to Bob freaking Costas and NBC tell me that since it's 2013 the name Redskin which is a name of honor is now a slur and must be done away with. Get off my tv you non football playing pot stirring ******!!!!!!!!

Yeah, when they said Costas was going to be talking about the name at halftime I was hoping it wasn't going to be the ignorant BS that it was.

It's not even stirring the pot. It's regurgitating main stream media, PC BS that he is trying to win brownie points for. He did the same thing after the Sandy Hook tragedy with gun control. Used the same "this is 201X, we shouldn't be doing things like this anymore" argument then as well. Just do what I do when I see Costas. Make a farting sound and turn the channel.

That's great advice. The guy has been grinding my gears for years. It started during the winter Olympics years ago when he went on a tear about Bodie Miller. He Ripped him apart because he was seen at one of the ski lodge bars drinking a beer after a race. Bodie ended up getting like a silver and a bronze that year and costas blamed it all on partying. Ski racing is one of the toughest individual sports in the world, and Bodie had one more medals than any American in history through prior Olympics. bob costs is the exact opposite of an athlete, and listening to him chastise an American athlete during the Olympics for placing third and second in the world was beyond ridiculous. From this point forward I will only hear farting. Thank you!
