Agree! Birdsong is showing better decision-making and a very impressive ability to thread he needle. Brown has great hands and is a big target. Abdullah's vision and cutting skills are awesome!

I would also add Ravenel and Davis to this list. I think they're going to be really good.

I/we saw birdsong stiff arm defenders while running/throwing at least 5 times. Birdsong is damn big at the qb position.

Here are some post-game thoughts:

Maine 62, DE 28
Ohio 40, Akron 3 (thought that was the score I saw on the Cleveland site -- close to that; Akron is 1-5 on the season)

RE: Albany postgame thoughts
I've been saying for a while that Birdsong does not go through his progression when throwing the football. He hones in on his primary receiver and stays fixed on him (seems like Brown 95% of the time). Against Albany I did see him at least once throw to a secondary option. That shows growth, albeit little, but still growth nonetheless.

I'm still concerned for our chances of making the playoffs. I don't see anymore games on the schedule that jump out as games I think we should definitely win.

Be careful with the transitive property in sports. The Dukes are good enough to win every game on the schedule...will they is another question.

I think the faster the offense plays, the better that Birdsong seems to play. Thoughts?

Looks that way to me too.

At this point, we can't harp on inexperience as much. Yes, he is a true Sophomore, but he is closing in on a full year of experience. UR will be his 9th start, and 11th game significant PT.

I would like his reads to be WR1, TE, dump off to TB. I think he can handle that.

Oh come on...Stony Brook at home should definitely be a win.

SBU was up on Towson through the 3rd (I think). They aren't bad.

RE: Albany postgame thoughts
Don't know exactly where to throw this thought in, so here will do.

I know we traditionally recruit the QB/Athlete and then slot them where ever we have a need. This approach works well when we end up with red-shirt juniors or seniors playing most meaningful minutes, but when we have red-shirt freshmen still learning the roles as our best options it is tricky.

I don't know if it is an option to recruit db's/corner's or wide-receiver's more than we do - as opposed to trying to convert a gifted athlete into that role. I think in moving up, our recruiting approach might need to get tuned up some.

It would be. Assuming we are then going after that next rung of player, you'll find guys that are more refined or defined in their roles. Now, we are largely looking for "athletes" that may be able to fill a variety of roles, and we don't know which they will excel in until they are in the program and can show what they can do an where they can do it effectively.

Finding those blue-chipper DB's coming from HS already up to speed isn't going to happen for us all that often now. Heck a lot of these guys are still growing and all of them are still filling out. The ones ready for the field right off are heading to the BCS schools. We gotta find the players that are the best player on their HS teams and see where we can fit them in.

No injuries (or at least not major injuries to starters) (Starke does have his groin issue, but wasn't that before the Albany game?).
No turnovers.

Those are 2 big positives....

Hey, just a quick belated shout out. Was great playing yall on Saturday. Wish we actually didn't suck so bad this year, but you have a hell of a program and a seriously kick ass stadium. The feed and play calling on Madizone were also top notch. Hope we get to meet on the field again next year.
