Obama: ‘I’d think about changing’ Washington Redskins team name
President Obama became the latest, and most high-profile, figure to weigh in against the Washington Redskins’ name, saying he would consider changing it because it offends many Native Americans.

What would we do without Democrats and liberals constantly making everything into a controversy?

Quote:NFL owners are scheduled to meet in Washington on Monday, and the Oneida Indian Nation is planning a protest.

1. Indians don't seem to be offended by referring to themselves as a mistake. They're not from India but that doesn't bother them.

2. Do Indians really have red skin? Why are they defending something they're not?

3. It's not like the left to ever exploit the injuns for a cause.

There you go again, Obama says something incredibly stupid, gets involved in something that is none of his business, and I'm dumb. How is it the smartest man in the room allows himself to get in the middle of these stupid debates where he can't win no matter what side he picks?

You want to know something more? There are many Indian casinos and reservations that profit from tourists because they are.....Indians!!!

This pale face just thinks this is stupid.

Steve, your objections to Obama are not the issue. It's your assuming that because a few have no problem then it's good for everyone. Or that there was a TV show ages ago, that it's still now okie dokie.

And no, Obama did not say something stupid. He shared a sentiment that is probably the one held by most Americans on the matter.

Now if you want to debate whether he should have addressed the matter, then yes, that's fair game and I take no issue with you criticizing him for getting involved. I would like to hear the whole context as to why it was even broached in the first place...but he's just answering a question as far as I can tell.

RE: Obama: ‘I’d think about changing’ Washington Redskins team name
Tom, I disagree with your pseudo statement that most Americans are offended by the matter. They've been called the redskins for so long that most people probably don't even think of Indians when the word is used. Also, Wiki says the team is the second my valuable NFL franchise so it's certainly not offensive to the people who judge these things with their wallet.

I also find it incredibly idiotic for Obama to take time to address this during a government shut down, and we all know that he knew this was coming because all interview questions are pre approved by the White House.

If you think about it, the Redskins name was actually a compliment to the Indians when it was first chosen. I mean, who would name their team the Washington Nazis, Klan, or Jihadists? Who does the left go after next, the Chiefs, Braves, Angels, Yankees?

He was asked a question and answered it. He didn't say he was going to bring the force of the 1st Infantry Division down on the NFL to force it to happen. He didn't say he was going to convene an investigation. Why does everything the man says have to be scrutinized and treated like he's delivering edicts upon high? If the man said he didn't like broccoli you'd say he had issued a fatwa against vegetables.

Why is he sticking his nose into private business in the first place? Do presidents normally get consulted on the names of companies or football franchises? When asked difficult questions regarding his competency the guy can artfully dodge them, but this question, not so much. A truly intelligent president would have said it wasn't his call to make and moved on.

Get real. Every time Washington plays all you think about are Indians sitting around getting drunk, right? Do you even think about Indians at all? Really? When San Diego plays do you think about a bunch of uncontrollable women running around with credit cards because that's the first think I and a majority of the country think.

Get real.

When you hear the word Washington, the first thing you think about is George, right?

Loon.

A lot of common sense stuff is like this is just way over your head.

Stick to the playpen at McDonalds so you can converse with those of equal intelligence.

We already know it is massively stupid because they have been called the redskins for 81+ years now.

You think by now we would have some kind of tangible evidence to point to showing that its damaging people.

Instead we have a POTUS and others using it as a political football to draw sides and paint people as racist for not agreeing with them.

He was asked a question, and as an American (yes, he's one of those whether you like it or not) he has a right to answer. I doubt he's actually expending a lot of time or energy on thinking about it.

Well no, because I rarely watch the Redskins not being from the Washington area and generally not really giving a damn about NFL football. And when it comes to your quip about San Diego, you are just an idiot.

Actually, yes, I'm not some uneducated hillbilly and I actually know the history of the city, so when I hear "Washington" I know that it is a reference to George Washington.

I just wished he would have continued laser like focus on the issue at hand. Everything he says will be magnified x100. This stuff just muddies the water. The pragmatic side of me just bristles at this shyt.

When the Florida State Seminole controversy broke, the Seminole Nation Chief publicly stated that the tribe had no issue with the mascot. Yet it was a white liberal who started the controversy and subsequently resulted in the mascot change.
