my obamacare quote
So I went online a d got my obamacare quote today. The price for the bronze option, which is somewhat equivalent to my current coverage is slightly higher by about $75. The difference however, is that the deductible for the bronze option is $11, 000 per individual or $22, 000 together compared to my current $2,500 combined deductible. Some copays are also higher.

Im not sure I'm reading the individual versus combined deductible correctly. Im going to research it tomorrow, but it sure looks at first glance like each individual has to meet their own deductible.

To get comparable coverage and deductibles, I have to choose the gold option, at a 50% increase compared to what I pay now. Thats not as bad as the 400% increase I've seen posted, but still bad enough. Ill play with it some tomorrow and see what I can figure out.

So where is the affordabe part Obama PROMISED us? Come on Tom, you've been the chief propagandist for Obama, care to tell us why insurance sky rocketed, or is this why they changed the name to Obamacare rather than the AFFORDABLE care act?

Promises, Promises, Broken Promises.

ACA is not affordable...as promised.
I can't keep my plan...as promised. (The HMO I was in is no longer one of my options.)
I can't keep my doctor...as promised. (She's not one of the in-network doctors in either of my two new plan choices.)

Promises, Promises, Broken Promises.

I guess you ought to move to Kentucky:

Humana Gold 2500/3500:

Annual Deductible $2500 per person
Out of Pocket Max $3500 for Medical and EHB
Coinsurance 20%

The cost is $225.24 per month. This is less than what my employer pays Anthem for a comparable plan. I pay 20% towards my insurance at work.

I make too much to qualify for assistance under the exchange, although I'm "potentially eligible" for "health plans" and was encouraged to apply through the Department of Community Based Services if I needed coverage before January 1.

One thing I noticed is that Anthem had the most expensive plans at all levels. I guess Humana will be kicking Anthem's rear end out of the Commonwealth unless if Anthem makes some serious changes.

RE: my obamacare quote
At no time in history of the US has the government tried to do a job that the private sector does better than the private sector. Obamacare is a disaster and that is why the House Republicans are doing what they are doing. The libs will not admit reality and are just playing politics with it, not doing what should be done.

The cost of insurance is a minor issue.

The real issue will be the availability of health care. If we're not going to pay docs as much, we're not going to have as many docs. Same for other providers. Nobody appears to have thought that through.

Sounds like some areas there will be no medical coverage. One area I saw yesterday only 1/4 of the areas medical centers that you could get treatment at.

For costs of the policies and the high deductibles a normally healthy person would be better off just paying the doctor cash which might be an incentive for him to be seen by the doc.

Yep, and the price would be cheaper for the patient because 1)fast payment and 2) the doc doesn't have to deal with insurance.

I'll assume neither of you have ever read a explanation of benefits.

The opposite is actually true.

If you're planning on going to the doctor or hospital with cash, prepare to be raped, as you won't have the benefit of an insurance company's contractual adjustment. That alone, even if you have a massive deductible and the insurance isn't going to pay anything, will save you a considerable percentage.

Besides, a "normally healthy" person is not immune to an unexpected hospital stay. Having a high-deductible ($10k) major medical would be the difference between leaving the hospital with a >$1 million "cash price" bill vs. owing just $13k (your $10k deductible + $3k OOP).

[Disclaimer: Obamacare is dumb.]
