Nippert Stadium expansion updated renderings
CINCINNATI – Proposed additions to the University of Cincinnati’s Nippert Stadium are a step closer to reality following the release of new renderings and floor plans for the Nippert Stadium Renovation & Expansion, director of athletics Whit Babcock announced Thursday.

Construction on the $86-millon, privately funded project, is scheduled to begin in mid-December 2013 and be completed in August of 2015.

“As we promised back in June we wanted to share with the Bearcat Family the exciting progress being made in the stadium design,” Babcock said. “As these renderings demonstrate, Nippert Stadium will add another signature facility in the heart of our beautiful campus. There will be some more tweaks and changes regarding design in the coming months. These renderings are close to final but still conceptual at this point.”

The expanded renovation focuses on both the east and west side of the stadium and will increase the stadium’s capacity to approximately 40,000. On the west side, a new press box structure will be built, adding suites, scholarship club seats and loge boxes/patio suites. The west concourse will also be renovated, including concession stands and restrooms. Changes on the east side include expanded concessions and restroom offerings, including the building of skywalks to connect the upper deck with the gameday plaza on O’Varsity Way.

The new west-side structure would be approximately one and one-half stories taller than the current press box and approximately 130 yards long. The curvature of the facility would match that of the upper deck on the east side of the stadium and contain four levels; a press and operations level, suite level, scholarship club level, and patio suites mezzanine level.

I like what I see. A question, I saw 40,000+ capacity. Since it has a plus, what will be the maximum possible capacity? Again, I like it. 04-cheers

Very nice. Also, very soccer-ish. Not a knock. Just what it reminded me off the top of my head. Certainly a MILLION times better than ECU's trailer in the sky.

From what I've heard I'd expect the capacity after this to be 40,000 and change. Something like 40,600.

As for the max you could transform Nippert to, I'd have to say you would cap it around 45,000+ in order for it to be feasible.

Looks good.

Question: why is the structure shifted towards one corner instead of centered along that sideline? Is there some obstruction to building it centered?

The additional suite and club seating income should help UC's bottom line moving forward.

Just a guess but I think they tried to save the views into the stadium from the middle of the "Main Street" part of campus.

Theres a building called TUC behind it as well as a portion of the Rec center that juts out in that area.

You can see what i am talking about below:

Because Cinci will play at the Bengals NFL Stadium in 2014...for selfish reasons, I hope UCF doesn't play at UC in 2014...because NFL stadiums suck for college football...and hopefully UCF can play at UC ON-CAMPUS in 2015 in one of the oldest Div I-A stadiums in the country.

Congratulations! 04-cheers

I think the 40K number is higher than they were originally talking about? If so, double congratulations. It shows that they're setting high standards for the program by maximizing the capacity in what I understand is a space challenged situation. That 40K number is very important to reach for a variety of reasons, so I'm glad to see that they were able to manage it.
