If we can get pressure on TH then we might do ok if not then everyone is right is won't matter if we had Deion, db's can't cover but for so long. I won't predict a score but I think it can be closer than what most people think, is all im saying. If im wrong then the score will def indicate it.

I was at the Maryland game and it wasn't the defensive back that beat us. It was the pass rush and speed Maryland had up front. Maryland might not have been in the top 25 when we played them but they i walked away knowing they were in that range.

That makes zero sense. Did Maryland suddenly become a better team bc writers voted them in the top 25?

Liberty should be a tough game. You speak of the DBs being very good. 4 of them?

3 Outstanding, 1 really good and getting better every game. 2 of the 4 should get a good shot at playing on Sundays after the season. Linebacker group is the best we have had in many years. D Line is very fast and athletic. 1 of the main Dline starters in going to be out though (4-6 weeks). That's a hit, but his back-up is solid.

I def think we can move the ball against you guys either thru the air or on the ground. Clock mgmt. will be key as well, as a cpl of time consuming drives can hopefully keep TH off the field a lil bit. I guess were gonna have to see if once ODU hits LU in the mouth (which they will) how will ODU respond, if they hit back ODU will be in for another dog fight just that simple. And I think LU does have a cpl of people that will hit back. Just my opinion.

Agree, this D is real. 12th in FCS in Total D.
I had to look back several years to find the last time anyone scored more than 45 vs LU. I have this game pegged in the 30s myself. Who wins? we shall see. If LU Can control the clock on offense and get pressure, it's gonna be a good day. 04-rock

RE: ODU/ LIBERTY
I hope your LBs are good at covering backs out of the backfield as well. And you may have 4 good CBs, but Heinicke is an expert at exploiting the tiniest of windows. It's not a coincidence that a large majority of coaches say after playing ODU that Heinicke is one of the best QBs they've seen at this level.

I mean, you won't be facing a Morgan St QB that goes 3-12 for 28 yards. Or whoever Monmouth or Kentucky Wesleyan ran out there.

You faced decent QBs from Kent St and Richmond, and they went 41-62, 404 yards, 3 TD, 0 INTs. That's a 100.5 QB rating (in the NFL's system). And Heinicke is world's better than those guys.

I'm not trying to dump on your squad, I am a full-blown believer in "Any Given Saturday", and I like what you guys have going on, but you simply haven't seen a QB like you will on Saturday. That's not hyperbole.

If you keep ODU in the 30s then pat yourself on the back.

RE: ODU/ LIBERTY
The thing that defenses struggle with vs our offense is the shear speed that we run plays. We will platoon receivers in the whole game and the DB's can't catch their breath. They be able to cover us for a while but it's just a matter of time. Before you know it, you're down three TDs.

RE: ODU/ LIBERTY
I got to see TH last year vs JMU and I am well aware that he is a stud. And yes quickfire over the middle stuff with no huddle is hard for anyone to stop. I just know we have the Defensive horses to slow him down somewhat. The key is our offense must control the ball and score. I'm not at all saying LU will take TH out of the game, but I do think LU can hang with ODU and not get blown out of the H2o.

No doubt this will be a close game. It may come down to can ODU's defense hold on a few 3rd downs and get the ball back to TH. So far we've been very poor on holding on 3rd. Hopefully this will change. I'm sure LU's defense is good enough to slow TH down, but I doubt they'll be able to keep Th under 28-35 points.Total # of possessions may decide this one.

For a good Liberty Twitter follow check out @chrislanglna Here's one from him just now:
Quote:Tempo differences: Liberty runs a play every 28.8 seconds. Old Dominion runs one every 23.2.

Another interesting stat I saw. ODU is averaging 67 ppg vs 3 FCS teams this year, but Liberty is only giving up an average of 20 ppg in the Gill Era (16 games).

We'll just split the difference and settle for putting up 44 on Liberty.

Final: ODU-44 LU-27
TH with 3 passing TD's and 1 rushing

Just got this in an email from ODAF re: parking opening at 12:30 this Saturday to accomodate the parade.

ODU Football Parking for Homecoming Weekend
Dear ODAF Member,
We hope you are getting as excited as we are for the Homecoming game against Liberty on October 5th! In preparation for the game Saturday, we want to provide you with the latest information regarding parking and traffic.
Due to the Homecoming Parade tailgate lots will open at 12:30 PM. The parade will be making its way around campus starting at 1:30. During this time, traffic on Powhatan, 43rd and 49th Street will be intermittingly blocked off to accommodate the parade participants.
We suggest you arrive before 1:00 pm or after 3:00 pm for the most convenient entrance to the tailgate lots.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call the ODAF office at 757-683-6963.
Thanks and GO MONARCHS!

Liberty's defense is not as good as ECU's.

But enough talking. We'll see how things go down on Saturday.

1. That 5 second time difference is equates to 15 plays over 30 minutes of possession. That's a lot.

2. What teams on Liberty's schedule have/had a QB better than Heinicke? ODU simply is not a regular FCS team.

Now divide that by two and you hv 200 yds or 50 yds a qtr that ain't half bad if u ask me. TH is good for where he is at, if he was meant to be FBS he would be! but he isn't. It's not his fault he making the best of where he's playing, pure and simple. You talk about the gms we hv played but ODU's schedule at home isn't any better.

Look, if you want to say Heinicke is only an FCS-level QB that's fine. Of course he was the BEST FCS QB in the nation last year.

It's interesting that you guys are now saying Heinicke is only an FCS guy because that's where he plays and yet your DBs are apparently the equivalent of Maryland's.

The best part of this is that it will be settled on the field.
