Better Season: 12-1 '12 w/BCS or 13-0 '13 no BCS
During the game Saturday, I got into a debate with an NIU fan behind me....which would be the better season, a 2013 that runs the table but is shut out of a BCS bowl, or the 2012 team that landed the BCS bowl despite a loss to Iowa...

My belief is you have to say the undefeated season is the ultimate measure of success, even if it isn't as satisfying as landing a BCS bowl...the other guy said no way, last season would be better, but I don't buy it. Going undefeated is achieving the best possible status by seasons end...pending the bowl situation, which is often out of our control given all the circumstances happening across the NCAA landscape, the undefeated season trumps all...

That said, I want a BCS berth again more than anything and have a ton of hope for such, and agree any season regardless of record that results in a BCS bowl is more fun and enjoyable... but I just can't see how you can say a team with a loss to Iowa last season would be more successful than an unbeaten 12-0 team should they get there this season (with 2 B1G wins!)....what you guys think?

RE: Better Season: 11-1 '12 w/BCS or 12-0 '13 no BCS
Just my humble opinion, but in 10-15 years looking back, the BCS bowl will be significantly more memorable because the undefeated "no BCS" scenario alone shows how difficult it is and how improbable it was as a 'mid major' let alone a 'one loss mid major" to get into the BCS. That is why i really did not even care if we beat FSU, because getting in, in the first place, was a feat onto itself.

That does not mean that there is no merit in going undefeated. That is quite a feat as well.

Either way, in both scenarios we win the MAC championship, so that argument is out the door.

14-0 & no BCS but a bowl win
OR
12-2 with BCS but didn't do well in the eyes of non Huskie fans

That would make a better argument.

Why speculate? The season is in full swing, and we have a shot to go undefeated AND get a bid for a BCS bowl game.

I understand your question, and if the latter happens it would make for a great poll, but at this time I will reserve my vote in favor of a season yet to play out.

I would be ok with that.

Just not losing to Stoops.

The point is you get a chance at the largest stage in college football with a chance to play and beat another major, very good program. No one wants to 'lose', but you take those chances when you play the best.

what is more satisfying? a BCS game vs. FSU where the game was close but we lose, or winning the Mobile Bowl versus USA (south alabama)?

I'll take my chances even knowing the odds are stacked against you/us at the BCS game any day.

Four games into a 12-game schedule, the stupidity of this thread is what's wrong with so many of our fans. You just insist on putting the cart before the horse. Anyone engaging in this kind of debate this early just can't grasp the importance of taking things one step at a time. Two road wins over Big Ten teams in the same season may never happen again, and you can't just savor this experience, you've got to indulge in fantasies that are totally beyond your control.

you never heard of multitasking? why can't you dream (even less.... simply discuss), while still enjoying the ride? i'm doing both.

Like others have said, we are fans, we don't have to take the games one game at a time. We might as well have fun with being fans of a team that has a shot to do everything being talked about above.

Well neither option is accurate. We were 12-1 last year and would have to go 13-0 this year before the season is over and bowl bids are announced.

Discussion was more just regular season...sorta assumed a MAC championship, but I suppose it's more correct to include that as a W

Yeah but likely we would have a better time scoring on Baylor.

undefeated, no contest. We have no control over the bowls, so a perfect regular season, and MAC champs is the sundae, a BCS bowl is just the cherry on top. Since I am allergic to cherries, screw the BCS
