RE: Little bit of Blue Lightning, Little bit of Cannon Thunder: MTSU v. ECU
I don't even want Kilgore to play in this game. I've watched a guy who threw for 2500 yards last that could have easily thrown for 4000 if he had more attempts to not being able to accurately throw anything beyond five to 10 yards. He needs to sit until he's healthy.

Grammer adds a little extra wrinkle for us too. He's a dual threat and although he has a wierd hitch in his throwing motion he has a much better arm than I originally thought he did. I guess that's why Kevin Sumlin wanted him at Houston.

I'm not usually one to get into stupid QB controversies, but Kilgore is hurt. Let him heal and put the guy in that gives us the best chance to win.

Is MT's offense going to be better than ODU's?........No
Is MT's defense going to be better than VT's?..........No

I wouldn't go as far as to simplify it that much.

MTSU has had flashes of being a good team. They marched right down UNC's throat and had a TD stolen away by the officials. That drastically changed the momentum of that game.

They are going to be ready. It's Homecoming... not to mention they're playing the #1 ranked team in C-USA. It's going to come down to Shane Carden making good decisions like he did vs UNC. We're going to have to be able to run the ball with Coop.

If we do that, I don't think there is any way MTSU can beat us in a shootout.

Speaking of officials, did they try to cheat ECU at UNC ?

Or did you not notice since you guys were up so big ?

Refs were kind of bad but not really biased. They were C-USA officials which was a new experience for ECU. Usually we get ACC officials playing at ACC teams like you did in your game. And you got Ron Cherry which is the worst case scenario. 03-puke

I think we will get the W, but I think it will be close. Call it a trap game, letdown, whatever, I think MT shows up and keeps it close until the late 3rd quarter.

All I really know about MT is that Kelly Holcomb QB'ed for my Brownies (and was good) several years ago. Wish I could make it down. Always love getting to see new/different stadiums.

If Kilgore was playing and healthy, I might well anticipate a hangover loss or at least a close game. With the injury, I don't think so. It'll be competitive, but I would not be surprised if ECU blew them off the field. Same time, I wouldn't be surprised if they lost. I think this is game of the week material in CUSA.

Totally agree. I'm pretty sure MT could win this game just as well as ECU could. It will be probably one of our larger/louder crowds of the year, and the acoustics of Floyd Stadium could play a role in home field advantage, something that's been crappy lately.

P.S. as an ACC fan I am even more disgusted that Ron Cherry was assigned the MT-UNC game, he is literally horrifyingly terrible...

I hope you guys have a great and loud crowd for the game, because I'm always way more concerned about the road games ECU plays in front of empty stadiums. I've watched many an ECU season get ruined in a C-USA road game in front of a crowd of a few thousand. ECU teams have always struggled creating their own energy in those environments and it's something that has cost us multiple times.

I've read on other ECU boards where some Pirate fans are insulted that we scheduled them as our Homecoming. Considering the fact that we had Western Carolina as an opening game, Memphis game was in September and too early, Marshall is our Blackout, FIU is the Veteran's Salute, and UTEP is right after Thanksgiving, when did they expect us to schedule it? Take it as an insult, but MT Homecoming has and will always be the first part of October. No need to get your panties in a wad over it.

With that said, I don't see MT winning this one...period. We are an awful football team. I am not happy with play calling, execution, or attendance this year. The "fun" and "thrill" of MT Football is just lacking tremendously this season. Hopefully our guys can turn it around and surprise everyone on Saturday, but I, honestly, don't see it happening.

I don't see us winning Saturday, but I think your doom and gloom is a bit premature, I think 7-8 wins is still definitely possible.

RE: Little bit of Blue Lightning, Little bit of Cannon Thunder: MTSU v. ECU
I just watched Coach Stockstill's weekly press conference....It was really funny to watch and you can really tell Coach Stockstill really does not enjoy those deals....Looked like he would rather have been getting a root canal than being in that room. I also listened to your QB, sounds like a bright and down to earth young man...likable guy.

I suspect we will get MT's best shot on Saturday and there are several factors in you guys favor that really worries me...Motivation and enthusiasm are huge in football and I think you guys will be on point in these two area. You guys are coming off a tough loss against a very good opponent and that usually gets the players attention. You guys match-up better against us that you do BYU. You guys are going to have a great crowd and your team is going to be very excited about their first home CUSA game.

I watched your game against BYU and UNC....You guys have good talent in the trenches and a good running game. While our defensive stats are good against the run we have not faced a good running team yet...You guys will be the best running team we have seen to date and we will be missing our stud NG for this game, this has me concerned in stopping the run, I think you guys will have some success in this area.

Your Defensive Coordinator is good at dialing up pressure and changing things up to get to the QB...While our oline had some success last weekend against UNC they have been very suspect in our other games.

Finally Rick Stockstill is a good coach and he is good at game planning for other teams...I think he may also have some added motivation for this game as he was at ECU as an offensive coordinator for a season under JT...That season went terribly but it was not Stockstill's fault as we had zero talent on offense. Needless to say our fan base was very tough on Stockstill and I always got the impression during that season that he could not get the hell out of town fast enough. It is only human nature for matters like this to enter your mind and I am sure he would love nothing more than to send us home a loser.

With all that said it obvious that I am expecting it to be a tall task to leave out of your stadium on Saturday with a win....This one has me very nervous.

You are so correct in that he doesn't like press conferences or dong the coaches' (radio or TV) shows.

I think he'd rather watch paint dry.

I guess I'm in the minority of Pirate fans who think this won't even be close. ECU by a landslide.

I say ECU by 17+... maybe 48-21.

I feel much better about this now that Jeff Connors has had a couple of years to get his systems in place and with Rick Smith being the DC. We're definitely tackling better and our pass coverage has improved exponentially.

Still, I want to get to 30 by halftime. I don't know if we can do it but I want a BIG lead going into the second half. They will be a tough out for us, no doubt.

I wish I could be at the game! I'll be competing with my barbershop quartet in Chattanooga, and there are actually quite a few Blue Raiders that sing in our hobby, so we'll all have a eyes tuned to the game. Go Blue! (Even though I know we realistically don't have a shot.)
