FAU post-game thread
Hope we get it figured-out on O. McH and DJ did not get it done, however, need to look in press box as it is not all at QB position.

Nice job by D not giving-up.

Lucky, lucky, lucky....just like KU..we lose those games in prior years.

4th down call goes our way, lucky bounce on fumble by FAU QB, two punt returns negated, etc... Hope all Rice players go to church tomorrow. We did not deserve to win tonight. This is FAU, not Florida, not Fla St...and not even UCF.. Playing to your competition.

Team has gone backwards each game. We looked best in 1H at A&M and now look worse than UH and UH looked worse than KU. Put that on coaching...

Big game next week...hope team we saw in 1H at A&M shows-up. Too much talent to look so bad.

Props to the D! Especially Callahan, Hill, and Bauer for their sensational turnovers. Amazing job, guys. That's an entire W for the D. I expected the O to carry us this season, but I'm pleasantly surprised by the D. Great job, Thurman. Great job, fellas.

It's on the coaching, plain and simple. Many of us knew last year's team's season-ending win streak would mask DB's many weaknesses as a game coach. Same old, same old. Nothing has changed. Nothing.

1) Great job D

2) Change QBs. How about giving DJ a real chance? Name him the starter and let him prep all week as the starting QB. Instead, we throw in him sporadically and in crappy situations.

3) Put the OC on short notice.

I was disappointed DJ didn't get more chances. They seemed like they came into the game hoping to let him.

But his first series he gets put in a 3rd and 12 hole and has no time to deliver, after making the right read.

And his second series he makes what's actually a pretty good throw, in-stride and up, to Taylor in 1-1 coverage, but the DB makes a tremendous play to pick it.

I guess FAU's defensive game plan was pretty simple. "These Rice guys have a good rushing game (less so now that Ross is out) and no passing game. Let's stack the box and neutralize the run. That should neutralize their entire offense."
And apparently they were right. Expect every remaining team on the schedule to do the same

Reagan in the post-game:

Hey, 60 teams didn't get wins this weekend.

We've got a great QB, and really good receivers, and we'll start hitting those deep balls.

We don't win the next 2 on the road if we get the same offensive performance. Outstanding job defense!!!

Exclamation RE: FAU post-game thread
I am grateful for the Defense for deciding to play in the game today.

But that was still a gift win by a FLA AtL team that just refused to win.

This is not the kind of "exciting game play" that puts fans in the stands and brings new people to respect Rice football. This is the kind of win that drives fans away.

I think Bailiff must laugh his head off every night before his head hits his pillow at how he's been able to pull the wool over the eyes of supposedly smart people at Rice all these years.

Thurmond: We don't coach much caution. We don't tell them to look out for this, and be weary of that, and be aware of this. We just tell them to go out and make plays.

What offensive performance?
If we can't get a semblance of a passing game, we won't be winning diddly squat.

We did have over 200 yards rushing today. If that's what happens when teams stack the box against us, I'll take it every week. Our WRs are good; those pass plays will show up. Lots of bad throws today; that won't happen every week.

You'd take 266 yards of total offense every week?

The run worked when it executed simply and straightforwardly. But coaching could not resist getting cute after each string of successes. It doesn't have to be pretty or dazzling if it works, and basic works against FAU.

Yeah, in the post-game.

Why don't our coaches take more chances? Because they're playing out this con as long as they can. Consider the alternatives for any of these guys on our staff.

RE: FAU post-game thread
Hey, come on, guys. We're 2-2 and 1-0 in conference. We beat a P5 team for one of those wins. This was an ugly win, but let's wipe our brows, take a deep breath, and focus on positives. I don't think Bailiff is a good in-game coach, but he has recruited some very smart, very talented players. Young guys have stepped up. The defense has stepped up. I'm shocked at that game but thrilled that we somehow ended up with the W.
