Article "Meet Coach Fleck":

Touting si.com Campus Union blog from last winter that Fleck was "best new hire" in CFB.

Apparently no one in WMU media relations has yet realized that blog was a goof based on his Goldsworth Pond plunge, as well-intentioned as it was.

Exactly. The idiots up there acted like that article was a GREAT thing. When it reality everything I read was mocking the new coaches antics. And now we see that the mocking might have been accurate.

His taking a Polar Plunge in the middle of the off season - to raise money for the Special Olympics - is the absolute least of anyone's concerns. In fact, it was pretty admirable.

There are plenty of things he's done that are ripe for goofing, obviously.

But this? A charity event?

Him doing that charity event was definitely a good thing, and a point in his favor.

WMU media relations taking the Campus Blog post that he was "Best New Hire" in CFB because of it on their "Switzies the Sixth" shows lack of understanding reality on their part.

Good point. The department should've vetted that source a bit more thoroughly. I gather they just assumed that a positive blurb about a Polar Bear plunge for charity would be taken at face value as positive (seems rather strange and cynical for someone to 'mock' the event), but admittedly you can't just 'assume' things.

The event and the reason for the event, you are correct is commendable. Probably shouldn't bag on him for that.

The issue is just all of the BS that has gone with him.

Mag probably went to printing a while back, when we were still in contention to schedule a game with Alabama.

Plus, can't really blame them for putting the best light on national publicity. Hard to get that under the best of circumstances.

Needs a grain of salt is all.
