Well that's some deep thought and solutions. By that notion, NW should hust build a stadium of 100k cause they are in the city, and U of I should have sold out SF since they have the largest alumni association in the country and likely the most grads in one city in Chicago. Oh, but there are "other factors" for those things. It is ridiculous how this always comes up! Give solutions and ideas with reasoning, not just statements. And if NIu alumni, I bet until about 2003, about 5-10.% ever stepped foot in DeKalb again, let alone the 1% who would come back for a football game!

You don't need to have a tie to NIU to go to a game! If, you have top notch ftball games people will come. I bet you many Naperville, Aurora, St.charles, Geneva and Rockford people watch and root for NIU when they are on tv. If, we could just get 8-10k people from these areas we would be fine. This is the job and the challenge for the new athletic dept.

The only focus needs to be on DeKalb/Sycamore residents and NIU Alums. No need to spend money reaching out to non NIU people outside of DeKalb county.

To the last 2 posts, in general, yes. I'd go up to 355. That is something they have done, could do a little better. They did have a deal for some football programs this week (St Charles?) or they were approached for group sales. Not sure, but a friend had tix through them. That is something I think would help create some growth now and future. And a nice Saturday, night game in the beginning of the year does not interfere with their games.

Hey, Randyfens, I sold 20 tickets for the EIU game. I sold them to NIU Alums and people with no affiliation to NIU at all. I sold them because I convinced them that NIU Ftball was a great product and NIU games are fun! This is what the athletic dept must do. How do they do that? they go to the people.

The Fox River Valley is within easy driving distance. I would think we could market to Batavia, Geneva, St Charles and N Aurora. I took my family to many games when I lived in Batavia.

I would say include Naperville and Aurora too. Many residents are near 88 making it a 30-40 minute trip.

Fantastic and great job!
I agree on that part. I had my 76 year old parents, a fellow grad and his family and I went with a season ticket holder who claims my email to about 10 grads last February after the OB "guilt tripped" him into buying them. He said instead of making a donation, he'd just buy 2 seats.
The problem, 6 others never answered, 2 make every excuse for not going. It's all you can do. WE are the exception on here, do what we can do. But it WON'T change over night. I have Bears tix and actually like NIU games as much, if not better. But it's a 85 mile drive instead of 20 miles, 18 expressway to SF from S. Suburbs. Yes, it's a great product, value and people try to get the word out. But you won't reach everyone and there is only so much that can be done due to many uncontrollable factors. #1 factor is win, #2 is hope for good weather #3 is day and date of game and #4 is opponent. We's all like to see UI, NW, and a WISC non-conf schedule. IT'S NOT HAPPENING! If people want to say we deserve more than Blue Hoes (50 posts later, I finally get the reference) I pretty much agree. But you gotta do what you gotta do. I mean OSU played FAMU, the #108 offense in FCS. Think their fans were happy to pay $70 for that crap? Think Purdue is happy to see NIU? NO. Name the reason, but they are selling 57 CENT TICKETS ON STUB HUB! LSU had $4 tickets to see KENT !!!!!! If people aren't going to see FCS or don't like them or like an NIU or a KENT, you really think they are going to come to DeKalb with it's limited and crappy hotels 150+ miles from home, 80 miles from d-town, 60+ from an airport? No freaking way! Not to mention for LESS, FAR LESS than they make at home!

What is the goal of NIU Athletics? If it is to have 20k for all home games then we must go outside of Dek/Syc. Many on this board drive from out of town for games, so will others. Dek/Syc, Alums and students should be your bread and butter, but we must reach for others. The Alums basically aren't from Dek/Syc right?

Why are people so freaked out about a new QB for next year. 1 we have been good at replacing qb's. 2 We used to be known for putting RB's in the NFL and it looks like we are gonna do that again soon!!! Cant wait to be there and get some pay back from 05 when Sam Hurd slipped/was pushed at the goal line when novak went for 2. 3 All I care about is do we get to bring Mac refs? I have had about enough of Big 10 refs they are BRUTAL!!!!

If he does, I hope he doesn't own his own business or work in marketing. Actually, I hope he didn't study business at all at NIU or I will be a little concerned.

Purdue looked in the preseason to have one of the hardest OOC schedules in the country. Their tickets are less than a buck because they are 1-3 and have had one decent season out of the past several.
We already have a better OOC than UofI...it's the B1G schedule that gives them the boost.

Right. In part cause we play 2 b-10 teams, and they play a terrible MAC team.
If you think they want to see NIU instead of ANY B-10 team you are mistaken.

Does anybody realize that we could possibly get put into the B12 as soon as 2015? Also we need money for if Carey leaves this year and takes a huge chunk of the staff. We need more $$$ in our coaching budget. Plus we can win there next year. I am willing to bet Arkansas will be ranked and so will Northwestern. I dont think we have a chance against Arkansas but Wake and Northwestern very beatable teams.

Our offense will good next year. Whoever lines up at QB will be a good player. Certainly not someone who can single-handedly take over games like Lynch but a good player.
Next year's defense? It could be real bad. It's not good this year and we have to replace Bishop, Windsor and Ward among others. Unless a lot of new defensive players step up big-time we could see Northwestern score an epic number of points, like EIU only with bigger and better players. Probably not the best year for us to play Northwestern.

The point is fans EVERYWHERE don't like their NC scheduling! Most schools DONT want to see the MAC or NIU. You schedule BELOW your level to win, you have to or you can. Big schools don't travel to small one. NIU isn't teaveling to EIU. It's about $$$$. Purdue is in the same boat as us. You think they can attract a big school NC? No way. You want wins. And my point was OSU sells 2 + crap games. Rarely do they travel away, unless it's a 1 for one with a school that draws. They sell our, collect about 8 million plus in ticket sales alone and pay out 750k to a million. You have to and IDIOT not to take it!
And I find it funny that some call the entire big 10 hard, high profile...others overrated, can't draw, don't draw on the road.
It's a game vs. NW, good for the team, the fans (well the ones not living west of 355) recruting, coverage in the city.
