OT: Cornell lacrosse players drink beer.
Shutting down the lacrosse program for a year? Really? Because college students were drinking beer? The wussification of America continues.
Things have changed since the "Animal House" days when I was in school.

RE: OT: Cornell lacrosse players forced to chug beer.
I don't think anybody should be hazed dude...but if they did it voluntarily and since it is part of college life, I don't see what the problem is.
Sounds like somebody snitched.

Neither drinking alcohol, nor forcing someone else to drink alcohol makes someone manlier or less of a "wuss".
The season wasn't cancelled because kids were drinking alcohol, but because of dangerous hazing practices. Which I would guess would also be a violation of the university's code of conduct. The players should probably be happy they lost a season instead of their college education or, god forbid, a teammate.
I would refer you to what you yourself posted in another thread.

Young people think all those warnings about drinking & driving (or texting & driving) don't apply to them.
A freshman at NIU died last December from alcohol related hazing. Doubt his parents got much closure. I'm sure there are plenty of other examples out there.
Personally I think hazing is stupid, but if someone wants to haze someone to prove their loyalty or commitment or whatever, then fine. However, if they do it in a way that could harm or kill that person, then ef 'em.

RE: OT: Cornell lacrosse players forced to chug beer.
So if they were doing an all freshman Keg race against upper class teammates and they have 11 freshman on the roster, it comes out to around 14.5 beers per player before accounting for spillage and foam.
They should've just made them chug pitchers of beer and stuff so they have some fun without getting sick/getting the team shut down.

Did they force them to chug it with their butts? That would be hazing; unless you are in the hills of Tennessee.

College students chugging beer is not the same as drinking and driving. One doesn't automatically follow the other. If you don't understand that ...

One vomits when they drink too much alcohol. I shudder to think of the aftermath of an overindulgent butt chugger.

Seniors chugging > Freshmen chugging. They were being pressured to drink a high volume of beer quickly, and haven't been there long enough to recognize their body signs. Plus the whole trying to impress the seniors.
Yes it happens everywhere, but it still was possible unfortunate situation.

Nevermind the fact these kids aren't 21 either, thus it was not only dangerous, but illegal. Yes, I know college students drink, that doesn't mean it's ok. And for the record, I have a DUI in my permanent file. I was a high volume drinker until that little wake-up call, so when I take the moral high ground here it's because I know where they are since I've been there.

Right because drunk driving is the only alcohol related death out there.

The only difference between you and the vast, vast majority of us is that you happened to get pulled over. Most of us have been guilty at some point in our lives but we were fortunate not to have the blue light behind us.
Hazing, however is a whole different exercise . Good natured "initiation" isn't a bad thing, but when it reaches the stage the it's referred to as "hazing", it's probably outlived any positives that can come from it.
Call it wussification or just plain common sense; I don't care.
