RE: Potential EMU Football Coaches?
Dear Ninkonpoopersnap,
To disagree with your listing, only one of your candidates is now a head coach. Maybe I'm wrong, but I believe most people on the Eagle's Nest feel Eastern needs to hire a present head coach. We have gone the route of hiring assistants with the last few coaches, and they really have not created the program that everyone wants to see. In fact, I think that partially answers your point of taking two years to get the dust settled with these kinds of coaches.
Pete Lembo of Ball State is a good example of a head coach coming into a new program and didn't miss a beat. He was a successful head coach at Elon before Ball State. That's who we need at Eastern.

IF it comes to pass, I still think Cubit goes to the top of my list for a number of reasons and yes I believe EMU can afford him.

I might be inclined to go for the HC of Stony Brook. He has done nice work building that program from nothing to one of the better FCS programs.

Dear emu79,
How old is Cubit? I think he's in his sixties, and that should not disqualify him by any means. Just wondering.

Dear MajorHoople,
Thanks for the information. Cubit looks like a youngster. Wouldn't that be weird, if Cubit became Eastern's coach? I doubt he would leave Illinois for Eastern, but has that ever happened in the MAC before? A coach being at one school, and then coaching at another in football. I know it has happened in basketball. Charlie Coles going from Central to Miami.

Can we have Saban?

I have no problem with an 'older' coach.

Is Saban available? 03-lmfao

RE: Potential EMU Football Coaches?
I have no problems with an older coach with successful coaching experience in running a program whether at Div II, FCS or Div I.
The reason is an older experienced coach can hopefully turn the program around and then retire or move on and groom a replacement.

Question what kind of recruiting connections does the head coach at Stony Brook have-ie where do they get their players?

Bill is a "young" 59.

Bill Mallory coached at Miami and then Northern Illinois after Colorado, Dick Crum Miami and Kent State after North Carolina, Ed Chlebek EMU and Kent State with Boston College in between.

Everything I've heard about Cubit and his wife is that they are a class act ie good people who get involved in the community.

RE: Potential EMU Football Coaches?
Ken, I wasn't saying they were all Head Coaches, I said high profile assistants and HC's.
Anyway I was merely pointing out that Yes we have gone the Assistant route, but we have gone with guys that have ZERO history with EMU, I think the times call for us to bring someone with first hand knowledge of what they are getting into BEFORE they go on and become a HC for some other program. Just a thought here, maybe Eastern HAS tried to go after HC's from Div 1aa and Div2 and maybe the assistant that desperately wants to be a HC is all we are going to get as canidates. And IF that is the case I say bring someone in who has BEEN HERE before. that's all

Is this a joke? Adams is a high school football coach. Apparently Bob thinks going the Gerry Faust route is the way to go. I suppose EMU could not be any worse than it is now. But surely there are good candidates who actually have coached in college.

Agreed.

This topic is premature at best and a silly over-reaction at worst. Let's play a few more games before we call Two Men and Truck...

Ya know Cubit is actually a really solid idea for EMU. Knows the area, knows the conference, and proved he can win as a HC..

He's definitely a guy who could get us out of the ditch we've been in the past 20 years. He'd have a chip on his shoulder too...

Plus Cubit has a history of solid Michigan and Florida high school recruiting connections. Been to a few bowl games as well.

What make everyone thinks he would come to EMU? Me may just want to be a OC whete he is and then move to another possition as OC at a bigger school then Illinois..

I like his background..
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Cubit

Do you think he would leave mid season to come here or will we have to wait until EOY?
