RE: The game yesterday
Uhm...
Did anyone go onto a NSU message board and see what their fans thought about it or maybe find a post game interview with NSU head coach and see what he had to say about it?
I admit it was strange, and McGee is a little unconventional, but he still gets 4 years in my book. If he still hasn't at least made it to a bowl by the begining of year 4 with our new conference line up, then I'll be critical of him.

I haven't given up on McGee, butnhebhas definitely made some very unconventional decisions, seems to be overconfident, and the team hasn't yet shown marked improve, met in the thing that was BY FAR our biggest weakness. Not good trends.

There's definitely ways to motivate the team besides giving the other team a free possession. And yes as a player or coach I'd take that move as a blatant insult to our talent and abilities, regardless if the opposing coach did it to "fire up the defense." And like others said the tactic didn't work that great anyways as we gave up a lot of points and yards to a lower level opponent!

I don't see on mention of the two kick-offs in the game. If any thing they are insulted that they are losing to us. LoL

The way Ty Long was booting them yesterday, heck it was an advantage to kick off.

Only once did they try & return it & that was returned back to the 23.

Reading their message board, I kind of felt sorry for them - they had to watch our video with our audio not syncing up.

Something we are just used to.

If it was so insulting, they could have used their deferment to kick off to us in the 2nd half.

That would have told us.

Maybe if you want to motivate your defense you start the second string guys to prove a point? I would have been much more supportive of that decision.

They looked pretty motivated on the first possession, which was the only one that decision affected

Given that their traveling party arrived in three cars, they shouldn't be.

I think they were insulted that we claimed to have 8700, when all 15 of there fans could see it wasn't true.

I actually think that 8.7k may be a legitimate number. A good number of people were hiding up under the overhang because of the early rain. I'm pretty bad at estimating crowds though.

RE: The game yesterday
One of the things that I think frustrated the Coach over last year was that the team did not seem to believe in themselves. I think he pulls some of these unconventional moves to show them that he has enough faith in them that he can make those decisions. That is why he made such a big deal over the SoMiss game last year, hoping it meant that the program turned the corner in the mental toughness department.

Go back and look at the early days of Bobby Bowden at FSU (not saying McGee is Bowden, yet). Some of the stunts he pulled were very unconventional, but it got the players believing in themselves.

I think the offense has a swagger in they believe they can move the ball on anyone - if we can get it on the defensive side this program will be fun to watch.

They shouldn't be. Northwestern State isn't exactly known for well attended home games unless Southern comes to town, and even then most of the folks that do show up are wearing blue and gold.
