Mine:

1) "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" (1966). The best western ever made. I want to be Clint Eastwood just for a day.

2) "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" (1975). The funniest movie ever made.

3) "Local Hero" (1983). A quirky, unknown film. One of the last for Burt Lancaster. A story about how small town life (where people care for their neighbors) is superior to big-city, corporate life. Loved by Roger Ebert.

4) "Animal House" (1978). My high school & college years in just 90 minutes.

5) "Friday the 13th" (1980). The film sucks, but I took the most beautiful girl in the high school to the premiere. One of the best nights of my life.

In no particular order:

1. The Princess Bride. Andre the Giant, ROUS's, Billy Crystal, Karol Kane...
2. Star Trek: The Wrath of Kahn. Actually any non-Abrams Star Trek
3. Star Wars (the original)
4. 2001: A Space Odyssey. A little high-brow but I like it.
5. Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow - modern film noir.

Wow, it would be tough for me to get down 5 overall without categories but I'd guess

I like 2001 but I found 2010: The Year We Make Contact more watchable.

I like 2010, and it is more watchable. 2001 made my short list because it was released in 1968 and recognized sci-fi fans as being intelligent adults who deserve intelligent, well made movies. Black curtains, sparklers and fishing poles were gone for ever!
