Whoa. The way I heard that told was MTSU and WKU were being packaged for the MAC and it took a unanimous vote to pass, 1 school voted against middle and the whole deal fell through.
Pfft. Right.
WKU tried to get in the MAC when the Sun Belt was falling apart and the Toppers refused to upgrade to FBS and suddenly was interested in FBS in the MAC. Motion reportedly never got a second. And the MAC doesn't require unanimous vote, it requires 3/4ths.
Ever how it happened, it seemed to turn out for the best. I think most feel that CUSA is a better fit for WKU.

Goes back to my Arkstfan theory of non-mega-money realignment.
Outside the uber-money leagues realignment is nothing but a constant shifting and shaking that results in the same basic core of schools crossing paths many times.
In the process, some fall away like West Texas or Trinity others move in like UCF and USF but the basic core bounces along.
WKU has re-united UAB, Charlotte, and ODU from the Sun Belt. Reunited with MTSU from the OVC and Sun Belt, reunited with Marshall from the OVC.
Memphis has reunited with Cincinnati after being with them in the Missouri Valley, Metro, Great Midwest, and C-USA. The Tigers were in the MoValley and CUSA with Houston who had their time at the pinnacle in the SWC but couldn't make it permanent.
You can go through the G5 leagues and find these same repeated connections over and over.
