C-USA Week 3 Rankings?
East

1.ECU - Almost beat VT. Seemed to separate themselves from Marshall.
2.Marshall -Close loss to a very good Ohio team.
3.MT -Beat in-state rival Memphis in a close game.
4.FAU -I don't know if they are really the fourth best team in the East, but they are the only other team with a win.
5.UAB -Bye Week
6.USM -Lost to Arkansas, but didn't get blown out.
7.FIU -Clobbered by FCS power Bethune-Cook

West

1.Rice -Quality win over a Big12 team.
2.Tulsa -Whooped by Oklahoma, but still probably the second best team in the West.
3.UNT -Quality OOC win over MAC power Ball State.
4.Tulane -Beat LA Tech in the "Thursday Night National Pillow Fight"
5.UTEP -Big win over NMSU, and big improvement from week 2.
6.UTSA/LA Tech -Tech is rebuilding, and UTSA is just young

Looks about right for now...I think Marshall clearly has the most talent but Doc has got to coach that group up...They look like a very undisciplined ball club, someone needs to snatch a knot in Cato, I saw him yelling at the coaches on the sidelines a few times. I know he is a great player but that is not being a good leader and it sets a bad example for the rest of the team. There is no way they should have lost to Ohio last night, just way too many self inflicted problems.

I also still think MTSU is the wild card in the east...They are a pretty good team and they get both Marshall and ECU at home.

RE: C-USA Week 3 Rankings?
I agree mostly with the original rankings but would switch UNT and Tulsa in the west. I might also switch Tulane and UTEP.

Overall rankings I'd put (1) ECU, (2) Rice, (3) Marshall. But that could change this week if Rice doesn't beat Houston.

Right now I think there are 5 legitimate contenders for the CUSA crown...Not sure who is the best but I think overall these 5 teams are pretty close.

Rice, Marshall, Tulsa, MTSU, and ECU.

We may also need to add UNT in this group as well since they appear to be trending upwards at a good clip.

Really need to see some more CUSA head to head battles to get a better read on how the teams stack-up but at this point I do not see a clear cut favorite.

Not a knock on MT, but how does a win over W. Carolina(FCS) and a close win over Memphis elevate them to the level of title contender?

RE: C-USA Week 3 Rankings?
1. Rice
2. UNT (could argue that they're 1 based on their play).
3. Tulsa (they haven't played like it really, but I'll assume, for now, they're better than they've played; but they may not be)
4. Tulane, UTEP, UTSA - what's better win over La Tech, close loss to S Ala; loss to New Mexico, win over dreadful N Mex State: win over N Mex and loss to 2 really good teams? Can't tell yet.
7. La Tech
Whichever west teams get FIU get a big scheduling advantage.

1. ECU
2. Marshall
3. MTSU
4. FAU
5. UAB
6. USM
7. FIU

Playing Arizona on the road is not an easy feat. Anyone in CUSA would have had a similar result.

Not sure if I would label NMSU a big win. Needed win probably closer to the mark.

All of this is splitting hairs. Rice has a win over dreadful Kansas. Tulsa has a win over terrible Colorado State and 1 bad loss. Marshall has win over awful Miami O and a FCS. You could go to the alleged non-contenders and find similar credentials. Too soon to tell.

You are right, playing Arizona on the road would be tough for any C-USA team, but it this is the schedule you play and it makes it hard to rate your team. I'm really looking forward to a good game between UTEP and UTSA on Saturday. I think it will be a close one.

Visually ECU looks like the best team in the whole conference. Sucks to lose to VT, when your team was just as good.

MTSU barely got by Memphis in Mufreesboro. Memphis is still not good.

Marshall: Holliday=Herrion and Cato=Deandre Kane. Kane was a good player with tude. Cato is a good player with tude.

FAU is getting better. If they can develop a running game or a passing game they may finish as high as 2nd in CUSA East; because their defense is really and good. Defense wins games in CUSA, a team has to score some points, so FAU will probably finish around fifth if they don't get something out of the offense.

UAB is a mystery to me. USM may not have any players left before long and FIU is just turble at this time.

Rice is the best team by a mile on that side of the conference.

UNT is not really that good, but CUSA is so bad that UNT is looking good.

Tulsa is ranked third, simply because UTSA and Tulane have to play with more consistency. Otherwise Tulsa is actually pretty bad and could finish as high as 1st or as low as 5th or worse in the West. UTEP is UTEP and La. Tech is in for a long season.

We only curb stomped Idaho, barely lost to a very good Ohio team and beat Ball State (MAC champion 9 win team, beat two top 25 teams) in the way you want to, showing heart.

We are good. Deal with it.

You didn't watch our game did you? Our defense was laying people out. Even the Fox announcers said that our D was the hardest hitters they had seen this season. Go watch the highlights.

Agree. Tough getting excited when you've gotten your teeth kicked in the past two weeks. Watching the level of play throughout the conference I feel we will compete well. UTEP is a must win for us. The schedule doesn't get any easier with Houston, Rice and Marshall next up.

It's going to be a fun game on Saturday.

It is called embellishment. Seemingly all broadcasters in this date in time are always embellishing stuff.

You team lost to Ohio. Nuff said.

I think the standings are all jumbled up now with teams that suck, teams that halfway-suck, and teams that kinda-suck. No one looks to be taking command just yet, and that is expected considering it's week three.

7. La Tech

I liked what I saw out of USM in the 30 minutes or so I got to watch their game. USM will finish above .500 in conference play, just have a brutal OOC this year. Marshall lost to a good Ohio team, can't penalize them too much when you factors in the turnovers. I am hesitant to move FAU up we'll see how they do the next couple of weeks. Rice with a solid victory, they will be tough for anyone to knock off. Tulsa will win 9 games and I refuse to rank us above them until we actually beat them on the field. UTSA lost by 25, most of us would have not faired much better besides Rice maybe. I'm really not sure what to make of Tulane, LT & UTEP just yet.

You didn't watch our game did you? Our defense was laying people out. Even the Fox announcers said that our D was the hardest hitters they had seen this season. Go watch the highlights.

It is called embellishment. Seemingly all broadcasters in this date in time are always embellishing stuff.

You team lost to Ohio. Nuff said.

ECU would lose to Ohio. Guaranteed.

I remember when ECU fans said y'all would beat Tech.
