We have a lot of good young players. I am excited for this team and the future of Rocket football.

The Rockets defense's ability to contain QB Vernon Adams was huge following the first two scoring drives. Just remarkable if you got a look at the Eagles game against Oregon State.

Looks like that #1 recruiting ranking in the MAC is paying dividends

Collegian tweets that Campbell says "Nothing torn" re: Owens. Also skeptical how they can be sure so quickly.

I'm pretty sure that most doctor's can tell, for the most part, if a knee has any torn ligaments just by feel and movement of the knee.

RE: Eastern Washington-Toledo game thread
Since I gotta keep my reputation and complain about something, let me get these out of the way first: those penalties will cost us an important MAC game or two if we don't get them under control...and, why has Reedy become so tentative on punt returns this season? Too many fair catches tonight.

Now...our d line has gotten better every game, and the secondary--while still scaring me more plays than not--is young and gets to build on their growing game experience. Flu played another great game. Woodside? Sure, he threw some ugly balls, but he never turned it over and the pass he put on Reedy's fingers for the TD was as nice as any pass a UT QB has thrown in a few seasons. Given that he hadn't played a down before tonight & got thrown into a game early that was still in question, I thought he did what he needed to do to give the Rockets a W. Bottom line: our D played well enough to slow down what had been a pretty dangerous offense, and the offense did just enough to overcome penalties & an injured TO to beat an EWU defense that probably isn't quite MAC-caliber (although their offense makes up for it). But all in all a good place to start heading into MAC play.

I agree. But how did we get through 2 games vs. SEC teams without many penalties, but tonight it seemed like there was a penalty every-other play?

And Reedy let way too many punts hit the ground. The coaches could be partly to blame by making him line up too deep. But there seemed to be a handful of punts that he could have caught/fair caught, but let hit the ground and bounce another 5-15 yds.

The penalties were ridiculous for sure. Now, me--I feel that Reedy used good judgement on the returns. This was a close game and against an offense like that--better safe than sorry. You do not want to give that team the ball at your 25 yard line.

Woodside didn't turn it over, nor did Moore or Hunt either. That's a great start for those freshman. Things are going to be getting a lot tougher, though...

Go to the main MAC board there...they will tell you that recruiting doesn't matter.

A couple getting a little mouthy on the field but other than that, I would agree.

Concerned a bit for the coaching. Took too long to go to Man on D. Even the announcer realized early we matched up well enough athletically to cover using man. Still, they went back to zone at the end of the game and got torched for a long pass on EW's last scoring drive.

There is a lack of discipline on the O side. Pushing/blocking penalties BEHIND the play. PLEASE STOP THAT!!! That's situational coaching. Same problem on the O side all season.

Yeah, the Reedy fair catches were a good call. He would have been drilled immediately after catching the ball on all of them had he not fair caught.

Now, the ones that went by him -- reminded me of watching steve odom -- not up far enough.

Did Odom EVER return a punt? He drove me crazy.

Tol friends. Just because there is an injury to knee doesn't mean ligaments or tendons are torn. I suspect he will be back really soon.04-cheers

THe Rockets did a very good job of avoiding penalties in the opener against the Gators. They were much less disciplined against the Tigers and the offensive flags hurt. This pattern continued, even increased, against the Eagles.

RE: Eastern Washington-Toledo game thread
For his performance against Eastern Washington, Jeremiah Detmer was named the MAC West Special Teams Player of the Week.

That's already the second time he's received that honor this season.

Here's a link.

I can recall him returning one for a TD.

I can recall about 50 hitting short of him and rolling an extra 25 yards past him!!

Those not knowledgable about College Football and only judging by the name of the opponent will not realize that value of this win but Eastern Washington was the FCS National Champion in 2010 and the fact they beat a ranked Oregon State on the road speaks volumes.

Would have been great to see the Rockets pull out an SEC victory but a win over a team that beat a ranked 12 PAC team is big

NDSU has won the FCS Championship the past two seasons. Even UMass won in the 1990's.
