I think most thought it was a good hire, he was winning at ECU, he is a good guy, and has the family name. But that song got tired really fast when the teams started losing, recruiting went to hell and he went golfing. He did not do a good job of getting HS coaches in area to buy into him, in fact it was the opposite effect. His game calling was atrocious, I have never seen a coach that loves FGs and holding on to TOs as he did. I mean you are own 20+ in fourth quarter and you kick a FG?

Consensus (and my opinion) was it was a GOOD hire, about as good as we could get. Holtz had the big name and he was perceived to be an up-coming coach who had done a good job at ECU and would be able to take us to the next level.
I couldn't have been more wrong.
