"Bowlsby is the top target. More going on around behind the scenes in the Big 12. OU, KSU, KU and OSU all think he's too close to Texas and not aggressive enough in expansion. Wouldn't be upset if he left for Texas. Texas will make a strong push for Saban, but it will come down to 5 guys after that (right now the list is):

Shaw
Fitzgerald
Strong
Gruden
Franklin

Gary Patterson is not a candidate. Urban Myer is not a candidate. Pete Carrol is not a candidate. Chris Peterson is not a candidate. "

That they put Franklin on their list shows they don't have a clue. Person saying this is just blowing hot air and knows nothing.

Texas would never hire anyone who embarrasses himself and his university so often. And I'm not even factoring in the rape allegations. The chances of Texas hiring Franklin are about the same as Texas hiring Barry Switzer or Matthew McConaghey.

I agree completely......Good to see somome post with a clue about Texas

Just got off phone with DeLoss Dodds: "I’ve not made any plans to retire at any time. When I do, I’ll give you guys plenty of notice." DeLoss Dodds said he loves Big 12's Bob Bowlsby and Notre Dame AD Jack Swarbrick "but I'm not ready to recommend anybody for my job."

Disagree. Not a one of those was staying with the offers given regardless except maybe Missouri and by that point, they weren't turning it down. Colorado had been lobbying for a PAC-10 invite, Nebraska felt cut off from their old Big 8 rivalry (more Oklahoma issue than a Texas one), and A&M wanted a place it could shine away from the other Texas schools. None of that changes with different actions from UT. They are just an easy target to blame.

Colorado had been regretting their turning down the Pac 10 since before the Big 12 even formally began. Nebraska had too good an offer to refuse, especially since the OU rivalry was gone. Missouri's leaving was due to OU's flirting with the Pac 12. A&M's leaving was about A&M, not Texas. They saw an opportunity to join the SEC who they wanted to join in 1994.

Hell, the only reason UT stayed was Larry Scott saying no to LHN.

If he hadn't insisted then there would still be a Big 12...but it would look a lot more like the AAC than it does the current conference and it would not be in the P5.

Speaking of Colorado, they cancelled their game with Fresno State this weekend due to the flooding in the area. The game may or may not be made up. That will be determined later...

only way it can be made up is if both teams miss their conference title game. no same weekend off the rest of the season.

For Colorado, they will go 2 weeks off before playing next, @ Oregon St on 9/28.

Not a safe bet. Fresno State is favored to play in the MWC title game. They'll be in that game even if they lose to Boise, so long as they win the rest of their conference games.

Typical texas that they would announce this on the eve of A&M biggest game.

Quote:Sources said Dodds has recommended Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby to Texas president Bill Powers as a possible replacement. Bowlsby's current annual salary of roughly $2 million, including perks and bonuses, could be an issue for Texas regents, sources said.

Bowlsby is the former athletic director at Stanford. He hired Jim Harbaugh and David Shaw as football coaches and helped oversee raising the money necessary to endow all athletic scholarships at the school.

That is a project Texas president Bill Powers is very interested in pursuing, because it makes the athletic department completely independent of the university's General Fund and would allow UT to add more sports.

Attempts by Orangebloods.com to reach Bowlsby for comment weren't immediately successful.

Well, some of us have had conversations around here about how Bowlsby would be taken care of should it all be agreed upon at the top that the Big 12 be the one that is parceled out. I suppose being offered the AD position at Texas just before the conference is dissolved is one way of getting him on board.

It is, but at the same time something NEEDS to be found for Bowlsby so he would keep tooting the party line until the final day. It would be heavily in Texas's best interests to do that AND Bowlsby has a very strong history at Stanford of being able to pick out the good fruit from the bad fruit (coaches). Right now, Texas has the money to spend on the right person. It's more important for them to find that right person than it is squabbling over a million or two. The anger of their big donor backers is definitely worth throwing some money at.

What if the replacement is DeLoss Dodds? He does seem to be a big fan of the Irish. 05-stirthepot

That some of us, is it you and your imagination? Because this report has been refuted multiple times, even officially by UT. I guess you can keep beating whatever drum it is that you are beating about the Big12 breaking up along with Johnofthedumbopinions. However, no one inside the Big12 is buying it.

Well I have no idea how much attention you pay to these boards in terms of what you read. Obviously it is not much. What I can assure you is that the conversations have been very drawn out. Your 90 posts most likely means you have been present for very few of them and I would hazard a guess based upon your most ignorant statement that you have been present for none.

If you wish to hang your hat upon "public statements" then go right ahead. The rest of us will laugh at you as we have seen many a time where these public statements turn out false later on. It is called Public Relations. I will not bother to explain further though since it is obvious that your level of intelligence is not up to par for such.
