RE: Hey UC and Memphis fans
IMO, the best way to compare the teams is by looking at the TV numbers when the teams play "similar" opponents (i.e., Cincy vs. Purdue/OSU vs. Purdue/Kentucky vs. Purdue).

Any unscientific polls, ESPN 1530, recently had UC as 2.5 times more popular than OSU. As far as TV ratings locally,
comparing the 2, not sure?

???????????
Really?????
???????????

I don't know about the poll, but I am incredulous at the results and therefore suspicious about the method.

I don't think any reasonable person really thinks that there are 2.5 times more UC fans in the Greater Cincinnati area than Bucknuts.

Hell, I'd settle for a 1:1 ratio. As it is, I'd say that OSU holds a sizeable majority in the Cincinnati DMA with UC competing with secondary programs like UK, UL, IU, for third place.

After OSU, I'd guess Notre Dame is second, but that wasn't part of the question. Of course the other complicating factor is that the REAL #1 factor in Cincinnati are the pro franchises--the Reds and the Bengals.

Way off Jerry. The only place I see a strong contingent of OSU is North,
West Chester, Butler County. You are only person-post I have seen with this position. If it were true local media would cover OSU on a administrative basis.

It is
Reds
Bengals
UC

and a bunch of others down here.

The better question is what part of Ohio despises Ohio State and on that score, it is not even close. There are more people in Cincinnati who have an unmitigated animosity toward Ohio State than might exist in any other part of the State. I won't go into all the reasons, because I would be typing all night.

Cincy is basically like it's own little city state...it is nothing like the rest of Ohio in many aspects. OSU owns all of Ohio with the exception of Cincy. In fact UK is more popular in Cincy than OSU I think (not football team but just in general). As someone said not only is OSU not #1 in Cincy but many people in Cincy hate OSU. Every "rate your favorite sports team" poll for the last I don't know how many years always has it this way:

Reds
Bengals
UC

XU

then in some order: UK, OSU, ND,

I know they published the numbers for team license plates in the city of Memphis maybe a year ago (not that that's a surefire gauge) and Memphis led all teams by a wide margin.

I'd say Memphis is definitely at this point more of an SEC town football wise due to our lack of sustained success.

Here's the article that talks about license plates and number of alumni in the Memphis area:

That's the best, most objective article on the matter

To add some objective data to the points being made above. The 2009 UC/USF game was the highest-rated regular-season college football game on ESPN or ESPN2 in Cincinnati since they started keeping records in 2000. The game drew a 14.0 rating in Cincinnati.

Definately interest and support for UC in SW Ohio.

I think Ohio State big win streak versus Ohio schools should have a asterisk next to it since it seems that they dodge Cincy most of the time.
