I agree! It's no wonder the UofM is perceived in such a negative light nationally; they simply feed off the Tigers own fanbase.
Twitter is swamped with fans of UCF, Cincinnati, Temple, Louisville, Rutgers, SMU, Houston and USF. Of those schools, USF is probably the least active. UConn and Memphis are lagging way behind all of the other schools!
Even Tulane, Tulsa and ECU out-perform Memphis and UConn. Navy is the only school among current and future AAC members with less activity than UConn or Memphis.
The university president of Cincinnati is more supportive of his athletic program than Memphis' fan base and proves to be cheering on his sports teams more than Memphis' cheerleaders, Pom Pon and Dance teams combined!
In the meantime, Memphis fans congregate on the message board and launch verbal assaults on each other which overshadows any attempts at intelligent conversation about the Tigers.
All the while, the so-called reporters and bloggers want to get paid for every little tidbit of information they come across. That's true whether they actually have worthwhile information or not! To the best of my knowledge, every other school in the AAC takes pride in getting their information out to the students, fan base and community without compensation; simply peruse Twitter for confirmation. They do have pay sites at the other schools but Memphis folks want to charge a fee to get updates about our university that is easily accessible for free at every other school in our conference.
In other words, Go Tigers Go (as long as there's something in it for me.) Great attitude Memphis!
