I've always wondered the same thing..
I guess so many people, white and black, worship football success so highly that they turn a blind eye to the history of racism at that school.
If black people were to avoid institutions, organizations, businesses, universities, or people that have a history of racism, we would have to leave this country. I am proud of these young ladies for standing up against the establishment. It takes a combination of acts to eventually lead to change.

Well all I can say is my son won't be attending UAT!

I showed this to my daughter, a UAB freshman. Her reply, "Keepin' classy, Bama."

That was 2 of 4 sororities. We did fine with the other two plus groups from BSC and Montevallo who expressed no reservations.
As a coda to the story, the young man was only one of many brothers we had who would mark a box other than "Caucasian" on a survey over the years. This year we celebrated with him as he graduated UAB with 3 Ph.D.'s and began his groundbreaking research at Tulane in composing music specifically as therapy for long-term, non-responsive patients (stroke victims, those in comas, autistic individuals, etc.).
One of the reasons I stopped being an active member of your chapter in the mid 80's was the resistance to fully integrate. We had minority members but no black members at that time. Things are getting better and those girls speaking out will help

I tell you what, after the University released statements about it if I were Guy Bailey I'd be *pissed*. He 100% got run out of there for standing up to the Greeks and now it looks like it's going to come crumbling down anyway.

Notice how Prez Bonner isn't in the public eye about this.

One of the advisors/alumni that blocked the vote in one of the sororities works in the Office of the President.

[OCS mention in every thread]
How many of these institutions have houses paid for using public bonds? Maybe that's the real reason the OCS got canned - we were going to let in minorities.

I'm friends with the guy you're referring to. He's whiter than I am, just with a much better tan.
I wonder how many blacks actually go through rush at UAT. I know when I was active at UAB there weren't but a couple guys in my 4 years to go through fraternity rush.
I could go on and on for days about sororities and their alumnae and how the actives let people who don't pay dues run their organizations.

I wonder how long it will be before the young ladies quoted in the stories will be asked to leave their organizations.
As much as I respect and appreciate the dissenting voices, I'd respect and appreciate them more if they didn't give those racist bags the satisfaction, and just walked out.
if you quit you no longer have the power to change the system. it takes more courage to stay and fight for you beliefs than walk away.

You kid.. but there is only so much money that the system can borrow at one time.

Interesting how Bonner had never spoken up on this before now.
Bailey had an initiative to integrate before he "stepped down" & Bonner didn't get the memo about the initiative apparently.

UAT deserves all the negative publicity they are getting. It's been a long time coming.
Now if somebody could just shed some light on the clowns on the BOT.
