RE: LOL at Vegas...
At this point I wouldn't bet on that Texas team against Ole Miss straight up.

Ole Miss is definitely better, but still hasn't arrived. Depending upon the closing line of money actually bet and the crew working the game, this line has sucker written all over it, either way.

Would you take BYU over Ole Miss?

Nope. The loss for Texas was a teaching and coaching loss, not a loss due to lack of talent. Talent can erupt at any time. The B.Y.U. that beat a clueless Texas team is no more talented than the B.Y.U. team that lost to Virginia. But like so many teams they improved over their opening performance. Texas on the other hand scheduling a true patsy on the opening weekend still had no idea after that game what their true problems were. I think they do now. Texas will be improved against Ole Miss. Heck, they may have even been working on stopping Ole Miss during the week of preparation for what looked like a significantly out manned B.Y.U. team. After all Texas versus the SEC would be much higher on Mack's priority list than bagging a bunch of Mormons that could not beat Virginia. These are just some more reasons the line on this game looks like a sucker bet to me. Personally I don't think either team will blow the other out. Could Ole Miss win? Certainly they could, but they aren't accustomed to winning and that in and of itself brings problems with being able to finish what they start. Do I think the Longhorns will win? They could, but there has to be a lot of dissension on the team's defensive unit if any of those guys were close to Diaz. There's way too much baggage in this game to pick either of these confidently.

But back to your original question, Ole Miss would match up much more favorably with B.Y.U. now than they did in Hugh's first year there.

BYU has some talent. And they'll face a lot of defenses that are less talented than the Horns (though perhaps better coached).

Texas has been exposed. They are soft at DT and MLB. Teams are going to run it up the gut on Texas all year long. Unless they stack the box. At which point, teams will throw on Texas.

It's going to be a thing of beauty.

RE: LOL at Vegas...
The problem for Texas is that they have a quarterback that can run as well as a new STUD receiver, Laquon Treadwell, that catches anything thrown his way. Bo Wallace is not a good passer, but he just has to get it to Treadwell's area. Ole Miss beating Texas would more than make up for the Georgia and Florida losses to the ACC in the minds of SEC fans. Texas is up there with Notre Dame and Ohio State as the most fun teams to beat.
