KSU and Toledo are in a very strong field that includes the #1 ranked team, Cal (who lost in the NCAA championships which 'Bama won.) Last year, Cal was virtually unbeatable in the invitationals. #5 New Mexico is also in the field along with #23 Kent St. (Golfweek/Sagarin rankings)

KSU is led by #32 ranked Corey Connors who made the semi-finals of the US Amateur this summer and #46 ranked Taylor Pendrith. They are the only MAC golfers ranked in the top 100 this year.

Holy Cow! Great start by KSU. Even moderately solid play the rest of the way should garner them a nice finish. Toledo struggled but we should be stronger than the last couple years.

Corey Connors shot 65 in the afternoon round to be tied for the individual lead (he won this tourney last year on a different course) and the Flashes played 5-under to be 3 shots behind NM and 4 shots ahead of Cal. Final round Monday.

Nice finish for Kent and UT ties ND for the "Conistency Award". Sadly, it was consistently bad as we only beat the sole school I never heard of. What happened to our Irish connection? We had some good players from there in the past.

Flashes had the lead for a good part of the day, but faded on the last few holes. Our ace Corey Connors,who shot 7-under for the three rounds, won the individual title there for the second straight year.

Kent State alum Mackenzie Hughes won the Cape Breton Classic in the PGA Tour Canada last week. With the win, Hughes climbed to the top of the order of merit (read: he's first in earnings on the PGA Tour Canada this year) and is ensured of finishing among the top 5 since only one tournament remains. The top 5 in the order of merit earn cards into the Web.com tour.

Because of the recent changes, the only path to the PGA tour is success on the Web.com tour. Even the so-called Q school will only qualify golfers to carry cards to the Web.com tour, so Mackenzie has done all he could for his professional golfing career this year; his first as a professional.

Akron was seven strokes back going into the final round, and came back to win the Golfweek Program Challenge.
