Thoughts on Akron Game
Even though we lost, I felt we lost a very winnable game. Our offense was playing solid football from what I saw. We dominated time of possession and kept the chains moving. If Akron had not made a few key plays (Chisholm breakaway TD), or the fumble, the game could have definitely been ours. Add to the fact that we were seconds short of a game winning field goal.

With that said, I want to say that if anything, we looked very attractive to the MAC yesterday. Even though the crowd was relatively small, it was an exciting game. Also, to those saying we are not ready in regards to moving up, I would have to disagree. I feel like JMU can definitely compete with a lot of FBS schools in the smaller leagues (MAC, Sun-Belt). The CAA gives a lot of FBS teams a run for their money. Richmond lost by 1 point yesterday to NCCSTATE. Maine took care of UMass. Akron barely escaped us.

I feel that CAA Play will be even tougher than what we saw in Akron. So to those who feel down about the game last night, there's a lot to be said for JMU Football.

Isn't Akron as bad as UMass?

Last year they were...we'll see about this season though. I think Akron will win a few more games this season and probably finish like 4-8 or 5-7. Massachusetts on the other land likely just lost the only game they had a legitimate shot at winning (and it really wasn't even much better than 50/50 at that).

It's sad that Akron will likely be the fourth (maybe fifth) best squad we face all year, but they would've gotten taken to the woodshed if this game was in Harrisonburg.

Just curious, but what is your basis for the statement? It is very possible that this is the only game Akron wins all season. The exception being maybe UMass or Miami who are equally as bad and any one of which could be looking at a zero or one win season.

Classic Trap Game: Blame the scheduling... The Dukes are coming off that emotional high from the win against CCSU and clearly looking past Akron to that heated rivalry game with St. Fran next Saturday.

In all seriousness, if we were going to lose one this season that is the least harmful possible on this year's schedule. We should have pulled that one out yesterday, but it is what it is. Hope the team learns from the experience and uses it towards better ends in future games.

In 2008, after losing to Duke, the team went on to the most magical season short of our NC run. For the haters, I'm not comparing these Dukes with the Rodney-led variety but let's just see how this season plays out as the team develops. After all, the Fr players are getting much needed experience, the entire offense looks to be ahead of schedule (given the off-season changes), and Ned Starke's bastard returns to the lineup next week on the defensive side of the ball... All very good things.

As always, Go Dukes!!!

I disagree with the least harmful thought. I think it's extremely harmful. I've watched some of the other teams in the league and it's a good league this year. Watched Delaware yesterday....look out for them. They have athletes all over the field. Towson has been impressive early. UNH is good, etc. I was shocked that Villanova lost yesterday after watching them in week 1 but they're good too. We could have really used that W.

RE: Thoughts on Akron Game
A least harmful would be one of the good teams in our league because they'll be in the playoffs anyway. Akron has no effect on that. Hence, the Akron loss is actually one of the most harmful ones we could have had.

Found this tweet intriguing. First I heard Mickey taking the blame!

@MatthewStoss: Mickey very happy with the effort. Said the kids played as hard as they ever have. He also takes responsibility for lack of discipline.

I belly laughed at the Tyler Snowe reference.
