RE: Mack or Kiffin thread
If I was a fan of a mid-level BCS school that's enjoying success I would be very nervous once the USC, Texas and Florida HC jobs become available. Those 3 will break the bank and have the prestige to lure the best.

At least Mack Brown won a NC at Texas and played in at least two BCS bowls (Rose and Fiesta) and lost to Alabama for the 2009 NC. That will be his legacy. I always thought he was a great recruiter but an average coach. Kiffin might get a TV gig somewhere (ESPN College GameDay perhaps?) and Muschamp might go to a mid-level BCS school or nonAQ school where the pressure for winning instantly is not as heavy as in a place like Gainesville. Those three coaches have no excuses with all the resources those schools have.....after all they're the football flagships of California, Texas and Florida.....the three most important football states.

You mean the three largest football states. Alabama is an important football state. It's just small. But, it has accounted for the last 4 national champions.

Sorry for not being more specific. I meant HS recruits who get FBS scholarships. I don't have any data backing up this statement but I'm sure CA, TX and FL account for more HS recruits who get FBS scholarships than the rest of the 47 states combined. Maybe I'm wrong.

Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Louisiana, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, etc are great states to recruit. It's just that CA, TX and FL are big enough for the power schools getting the best recruits while the rest still get decent recruits. That's why I said USC, Texas and Florida have all the advantages given the tons of recruits their states offer.

Kiffin will be hired at the University of Texas to replace Mack Brown. 04-cheers I'm dooming the Longhorns already, muhahaha!!! 05-stirthepot 05-stirthepot 03-lmfao (don't laugh. Deloss Dodds could definitely qualify for an AD that is a complete moron, IMO)

Seriously, I wonder if Tennessee planned every bit of "sorrow" that they had over "losing" Coach Lane Kiffin to make sure that USC would hire their sorry joke of a coach, then hire Derek Dooley as a temp until they got their real guy, the former Cincy coach.

Kiffin walked into a situation beyond his control, and though he knew this ahead of time, should be accounted for. I am waiting for the thread at the end of the year that Muschamp is on that list, if they lose to FSU and do not win the east again.

I don't give Kiffin any slack. A 65 member USC team still has better players than most teams. They were at home and could only put up 7 points on Wash State.

The whole issue with him being unable to pick a quarterback? It doesn't matter if they were close in skill. Any decent coach recognizes the psychological necessity of having that one leader for the team. Kiffin is an idiot when it comes to the human side of the game. He may be able to X and O like no other but he doesn't belong in college football, that much is for sure.

The only X's and O's Kiffin ever knew were on a Tic-Tac-Toe board.

This sounds like Bowden in his heyday, but he was not limited to recruiting.
