Tailgating
Appears WMU still does not get it! Supposedly you now have to purchase passes in advance?

RE: Tailgating
Where do you see that?

all i see is:

Additionally, Lots 2 & 3 will be closed throughout the season due to East Campus renovation.

Please also note Lot 1 located off Oakland Drive is being utilized by Alumni & Development during the Oct. 12 (Homecoming) game as well as the Nov. 16 (Central Michigan) game. This lot will not be open to the public on either of these dates.

RE: Tailgating
Lots 88 and 102 are open to the general public and parking passes must be purchased in advanced for these lots either for the season or single game. A season parking pass may be purchased for $50 and a single game parking pass may be purchased for $10 at ticket office

RE: Tailgating
Do they still limit tailgating to 3.5 hrs? If so, that's ridiculous. Open up the lots 5-6 hours before kickoff

i don't think they do anymore. i think it's still on the signs, but i've had campus police tell me they don't enforce it.

The rule is 2.5 hours, but I have never seen it enforced

Just be aware they sell more permits than there are spaces. Good for the bottom line but you can have a permit and still be turned away. Makes my blood boil.

RE: Tailgating
Anyone tailgate in lot 88, the "family" lot. I got parking passes for that, was going to get 102 but mixed my numbers up.

How early do I need to get there to get a grass spot?

If you get to 88 at 3 you should find a grass spot.

RE: Tailgating
I'm coming in for the game on 10/19 and will be looking for a tailgating lot. I usually tailgate in lots 2 or 3 on East Campus . Can anyone suggest an alternative lot off Oakland Drive that doesn't require a prepaid tailgating pass?

Just remember, any complaints about tailgating should be sent to Parking Services and DPS. The Athletic Dept. has nothing to do with it.

The athletic dept has the clout to dictate game day policy. If they had a clue what the game day experience should be like they'd do something about it.

I love my alma mater, but as is the usual case the powers that be are perfectly willing to settle for mediocre.

RE: Tailgating
Why is it that WMU can take something that is made so easy at other schools and makes it such a pain in the butt? I have yet to tailgate at any other school that charges a fee.

As Ken Barma Would Say:
Dear WMU:

If you want adults to partake in the "new gameday traditions", you'll have to loosen us up first.

GOOD NEWS; IT'S EASY!

Completely deregulate every aspect of tailgating besides offering overly-accommodating logistics.

See how we row.

It's not like they're that far off from something great. Most of their rules are right in line with most schools, but it just takes 2 or 3 bad rules to ruin it.

- allow tailgating in ALL lots, and remove the special "designated" lots (except the booster lot and the suite holder lot).

- open the lots 5 or 6 hours before kickoff and don't close them during the game.

- open up the green spaces all over east campus to lawn parking.
