In addition, they try to distance themselves from his antics on the football field. They suspend a number of athletes and have a couple more ejected during the game.
One Aggie friend I talked to would be glad to trade out JFF for a couple of more losses for those reasons. His was also incredulous that people were so upset with his behavior this year because he did the exact same things last year and that's what they fell in live with...
The everyday Aggies I know are also cringing. I think they realize Manziel will be long gone after this semester, and they question the damage now happening to the Aggie honor.

Hey, you pays your money and you takes your choice.
I'll add that the Aggies in my extended family seem to worship the guy. I don't think there's a clear-cut position one way or the other among the Aggie alumn--, I mean, "former students."

If, as I kind of suspect, JSS turns the season into an exercise of what he can get out of his fame rather than being a team player, he may be a liability on the field as well as off of it.
To be fair, I was perfectly happy to promote the idea that there was a significant chance he could've wound up at Rice until someone posted the Manziel Family Values article here. I am very glad he didn't wind up on the Rice campus given his character issues.

+1. Though I would think/hope that athletes at Rice are held more liable for nonsense behavior than folks at other places (e.g. Gaines' punishment vs JFF's punishment)

Maybe the new Ags can like his antics, but they are not Old Army. In the old days, you are supposed to learn to be part of a team and someone would regret not being a team player. I do not think any player would want to face Bear Bryant of Gene Stallings after getting a 15 yard penalty because he could not control his mouth.
The part about being a team player applied to even non-athletes back in the days of mandatory Corps until about 50 years ago. They were supposed to do certain things for their outfit. They would be all for you if you were all for your outfit but you would be in trouble if you did not do what you were supposed to do (which was part of the military training of the Corps).

Rice dodged a bullet in not getting Johnny's signature on signing day. His act wouldn't be welcome at Rice. While he's obviously a talented playmaker, I don't think he's anything special among the legions of high-productivity spread QBs with wheels of the recent era. Manziel benefits greatly from A&M's excellent O-line and big-target WRs that can also block downfield. Put Chase Clement behind A&M's line, and he would do at least as well as Manziel. If McHargue improved on his passing, he would be very similar to Manziel.
I don't see Manziel having a pro career. He doesn't have the build to handle the physicality of the NFL -- it's not the height but the scrawniness -- and he would lose the protection advantage provided by A&M's superior line. Kellen Moore is barely making the cut in the NFL, and he was far more productive than Manziel at Boise State. He's not an a$$ either...

The 9/8/13 Sports Illustrated article is titled Taylor Made catch. The picture shows Jordan Taylor going up in the air to get a well-defended pass. It goes on to metion that he made seven catches for 68 yards and a TD. I think SI went out of their way to do a good story about a Rice player instead of something about the spoiled brat on the other side.

Manziel will leave at semester. and if he does finish a degree, it will be at UT, much to Ags dismay.
