Thanks Ham. Something else my dad taught me: his words exactly; "A hit dog always hollers". I didn't say that there aren't also lots of young men out there who need a good leader. Folks who might find my previous words offensive may be taking it a little one sided. But if one thinks that young men and women are so much smarter now, just spend an afternoon watching Judge Judy and her ilk. There are plenty of examples right there of folks who made dumb life decisions. I don't know why kids would be so much wiser now than they were in the 70's anyway.

"Most women" is an awful lot of people. Adults, even.

Indeed. As well as most men, according to......most women.

It being so hard to have unbiased opinions, I still think that "young 'uns" will always be viewed as unwise, especially compared to older folk. If the complaints of Greeks from 300 BC sound like they could have been truly stated today, it looks less like a state of decay and more like human nature.

Certainly one eternal truth is that youth is, so often, wasted on the young.

I have observed the corollary that age is often wasted on the old.

Seeing as how your father's teaching (as stated) concerned women specifically, and was preceded by your voiced disappointment of your contemporary young women, and in the context of your opinion on how someone is raising his daughter, I think it's unsurprising that most (if not all) took that teaching as being "one-sided" in its focus on women.
If that's not actually the case - if your father wasn't teaching you something specifically about women - would you care to restate the lesson for us in a way that's more clear?

I'd like to see that. In the meantime, I'll be working on my application for appearing on the "Jerry Springer Show." I'm afraid I've made some really poor decisions in my life. It's not my fault at all; I just didn't have the right man around to tell me what to do. I suppose I should've tried harder to find the right man, but I was busy getting a couple of degrees (in engineering of all things!), getting my professional license, establishing a reputation for excellence in my profession, mentoring students, giving time to my community, traveling the world, and doing other dumb things. Doing those things introduced me to really inferior men: men who were interested in my opinions, who respected my decisions, and who treated me as an equal. Actually, it all goes back to my dad. He was a real jerk: He never told me I couldn't do something because I was a girl, and he respected my decisions about my future. We have a horrible relationship now. We talk on the phone perhaps once a week, and he and my mom flew here in July to hang out with me. I'm going to see them again in October. Can you believe my dad said he missed me? What a horrible father. I am such a loser--and it's all because I've been inflicted with autonomy and I've been surrounded by men who didn't know how to lead me. I'll be Jerry Springer's best guest ever.
