Rice pre-game tailgate on Sept 14 (hosted by Rice Engineering Alumni)
All Rice fans are invited to attend the annual Rice Engineering Alumni pregame tailgate at 4:30 pm or 2 hours before the Rice vs Kansas football game at “Tailgate Owley”, the northeast corner of Rice Stadium on Saturday, September 14. The cost is $10 per person or free for REA sponsors*, students and children (but they should still register so we know who's coming). Please register online by Tuesday, September 10:
http://alumni.rice.edu/rea/Houston-Social-Events

While you're there, check out the rest of the new and highly informative REA website, and learn more about how REA supports students, connects alumni and encourages excellence -- not just in Houston but around the country.

*REA Sponsors are individuals who make a direct financial gift to REA:
http://alumni.rice.edu/rea/support-rea
Sponsorships start at just $50 ($25 for young alumni). Sponsorship benefits are as follows:
Quote:- All sponsors receive the Rice Engineering annual magazine and free or reduced admission to those REA events which have admission charges.
- Sponsors at the Gray level and above receive additional recognition, commensurate with their level, at REA events.
- In addition, Fellows are invited to exclusive events with School of Engineering leaders.
- Sponsorships at the Benefactor level and above directly fund the REA scholarship and grant programs.
The REA sponsorship year coincides with the Rice fiscal year, July 1 to June 30.

Go Owls!

Two updates:

1. A nice plug from Dean Ned Thomas, in his weekly message today to the School of Engineering:

Quote:Quiz: What is the oldest, biggest and best Rice Alumni unit?
The REA is inviting all engineering alumni, faculty, staff, family and friends to join them for a pre-game tailgate on Saturday as they celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the REA! They want to have a big crowd to cheer on the Owl football team as they take on the Kansas University Jayhawks. The tailgate begins at 4:30. Register online at https://online.alumni.rice.edu/default.a...ntID=1721. Tailgate tickets are free for REA sponsors, students and children. I'll be there, so should YOU!

2. The engineering students will be at the tailgate selling cool RICE t-shirts, with a story behind them:

And let me add that four of the members of the AD Search Committee are engineers: two alumni (including an Outstanding Engineering Alumna), one student and one faculty member.

Rice Engineering rocks!

If I make it over to the tailgate this weekend, I might just have to buy one or two.

Can't wait to see everyone! Looks like we will have a Dean, an AD, and a Trustee or two as well. You can register on-site if you didn't do so in advance. Go Owls!

George, I posted elsewhere that I am not coming to the game, and thus won't make this event either. Sounds like a great event.
