no, not 2014.

See 2013 as basically being divided into 4 subseasons.

1. A$M. Done
2. Games 2-5. this includes Kansas, UH, and Tulsa, and is the make or break part of the season, AFAIAC. We need to win at least 3/4.
3. Games 6-12. we should be favored in most if not all of these games, especially if we do go 3/4 in season 2. we ought to win all7, but 6/7 is a minimum.
4. postseason. if we TCOB in seasons 2&3, should be 2 games. We need to win both.

I think you mean "Next season," not "ext season," but otherwise I pretty much agree.

RE: ext season
Unless one of those teams on our remaining schedule ends up being a whole lot better than everyone expects them to be, then 3/4 and 6/7 won't do it... because it will mean we lost to a team that will likely only qualify for a bowl because of our tie-ins, and not because they are one of the top 64 teams in the country... which means WE aren't one of the top 64 teams in the country.

The difference between top 70 and top 25 is
1) whether or not A&M is for real
2) whether or not we can avoid beating ourselves.

Rice didn't beat Rice against A&M. A&M beat us... but we certainly missed some opportunities.

I know it is said often on here that we seem to lay an egg and that impacts our expectations. I don't buy into that. I expect that we won't be perfect... but we will overcome these many mistakes... just as we did at A&M where an opening fair catch on the 4 turns into a 96 yard TD in under 3 minutes.

Good points. I'll root for A&M (and take showers frequently) unless/until the Owls lose again.

Those are minimums, which add up to a 9-3 regular season, which would be disappointing to me. The 3/4 is for a stretch which contains what most people think (thought?) are our toughest remain games, but I see no reason we can't go 4/4.

the 6/7 was just again a minimum, and again I think we could/should go 7/7. We do have a history of dropping a game we should have won, but this needs correcting and now seems like a good time to correct it.

Assuming we go 10-2 or 11-1 in the regular season, we likely are in the Conference championship game (certainly if 11-1), and if so we MUST win that one to get the best available bowl game, and then we need to win that one to show we aren't just a weak-schedule wonder.

The pressure is on. Looking for 13-1.

anybody want a rematch with A&M in the bowl?

Best available bowl game = Liberty Bowl vs 8th or 9th SEC team. If that is A&M it would be a pretty catastrophic season for the Ags.

Which would actually make for a good rematch.
