Dear Ryan...
Dear Ryan...you couldn't find anything positive to write about on yesterday's game? I just read the article on the Blah's website. We played at the swamp, in extreme heat, with a young defense, TO struggled throwing the ball - sure, but we were never blown out by a top ten team!

That should be the article! Come on! I am tired of the Blah's blatant hatred for UT. If you can't write something positive on UT then maybe you should look at covering BG and let someone else cover UT - someone who actually likes them! You are simply contributing to the downer syndrome propagated by the Blade.

You really think there was much of a difference between BG hanging around with UF last year than UT's game yesterday? Come on! BG played extemely well and still lost by 13. We played bad on offense and still only lost by 18. IF TO makes only a handfull of better throws, heck we might have been looking at a tied game going into the 4th quarter. The Blade continues to find the negative with every situation regarding UT, but somehow finds a shining beacon of light in a pile of #$&* with every story on BGSUCKS. I think BG is going to be good this year, but so are we!

Sure we are disappointed with the loss, but we have so much to be excited about at UT - if TO makes a few better throws yesterday, heck we are within a score the entire game. I am sure he was a little nervous, and he will settle down. I was impressed with our defense - and the offense will be right there as they settle down. Next week will be another great opportunity on the road at an SEC team. Let's hope the local paper can find a way to highlight some of the good things we are doing. These kids work too hard to not have some positive coverage. I know the media is shock and doom - expecially the Blah. Well guess what - T Town is simply getting fed up with all the negativity!

PS - I root for all MAC teams in the non-conference! That is what we do in the MAC and as mid-majors. We need to stick together and pull each other up. I even root for BG in the non-conference. Maybe the Blah can follow this moto in the future - more positive coverage on UT and more coverage on all the MAC.

GO ROCKETS!!! GO MAC!!!

RE: Dear Ryan...
It is truly liberating to live in Indiana and not have to read this crap on a daily basis. I work with a Florida grad and had great fun ribbing all week long. After the game I felt disappointment but hope. Hope does not disappoint. Reading the local paper in Toledo brings an absense of hope on most anything including the University of Toledo. Best advice ever....be a fan from somewhere else and read the game stories from the town we are playing. You know what you are going to get with the daily local paper in Toledo.

Can't anyone just use a direct email anymore or do we always have to ***** about a Blade article on here?

After seeing your post, I checked out Ryan's article and I thought that actually he gave a pretty factual recap of the game. The last line of the story:

"Red zone execution is not currently a concern for the Rockets. They need to get there first."

could perhaps be construed as rubbing salt in the wound but OTOH it is perfectly true (the same thought occurred to me yesterday during the game) and could also be taken as a challenge to work on execution.

I agree that the team has potential, but as Saturday amply demonstrated there is still a lot of work required if that potential is to be realized.

I don't get your beef? It's a message board. What did OP do wrong? Most here have expressed much support for Ryan and nothing is going to change most opinions here about the Wood Blade.

I've not read the article so I'm presuming OP's observation but when UT beats BG, that paper can write all the negative they want about UT and all the positive they want about BG, it won't change the outcome.

He went to BG didn't he? Why is anyone surprised. Let it go. He writes good articles too. If we get some nice wins, the press will jump on our back. I'd rather have a factual written story about a tough loss, then an overly positive one that says we are the greatest for losing by 18 points.

RE: Dear Ryan...
What did he write? if TO would have played like he has in the past and they pass the ball maybe once or twice on second down where our recievers catch the ball... the game would have been totall different...

i saw the Defense step up HUGE in this game... now, fix the offense and we win every game INCLUDING the MAC championship and the bowl game...

RE: Dear Ryan...
After watching the last couple of years of Rocket football, I would have to say our defense has continued to improved since Beckman has left, (we were terrible two years ago on "D"). But the offense continues to be inconsistent, just as it was last year. We seem to find ways to self-destruct when we get close to the goal line. We always seem to go to an unorthodox formation and waist away opportunity after opportunity to score TDs. Please, please, put a fullback in the backfield when you get close to scoring.
Now its time to beat Missouri....Go Rockets!!!!!!!!!!

I was at the game too and saw nothing encouraging from the offensive side of the ball nor the decision making from the head coach and OC.

I'm not a Rocket fan, nor a journalist. I also didn't read the article. I've read some of his articles and haven't found issue with those. I like to see where Toledo is and what is happening just to get a sense of the surroundings. But I must say, to ask to have someone who likes the Rockets as their beat reporter shows you don't know the nature of journalism.

If he worked for Toledo it would be different. The Blade is an impartial media company, it's his job to not have a bias and call it as he sees it. Good luck against Mizzou.

RE: Dear Ryan...
Rocket Man - Agree with Huskie. I saw the game and here are some thoughts. TO is a Senior. If you look at past senior, veteran QBs they performed. I know the swamp, heat (real bad break on us having such a cool August camp), nerves, etc. Answer is vets need to step up. D was a nice positive for me. Young but yet performed as well as could be expected. Guessing Muschamp did hold back and they had a ton in key folks not participate. All in all the score was respectable. Week 2 should show improvement (isn't that the old saying about when your team improves most)?
Hope the O can show up this week. Guessing Gary P is not going to go easy on us as he is feeling the heat go up on his bottom side a bit. Go Rockets.
