Running fake punts against a completely overmatched opponent and then brazenly defending the practice like an ******* postgame is what wins football games? Good to know.

Enjoy that winning percentage while you can...

Mr. Moderator that roots for a CUSA team, I do believe it was noted in the "Notice of Rules" thread that bashing of teams in the game threads will not be tolerated. Best I can tell my team is being bashed for scoring a lot. Does this rule not apply to this thread?

Discussing Moderation in Public can get you a warning level.

I'd advise taking it to PMs.

We had 576 rushing yards and only 75 yards passing. If SSU can't tackle, tough ******* ****. We had our second string QB in during the 2nd quarter. James Dean, a LB in fall camp, scored one of our last touchdowns. A 1st stringer didn't score after the 2nd quarter. I don't think SSU even crossed midfield until the third quarter. The fake punt we ran was the same one we've run several times in Monken's tenure, plenty of film of it already.

Few, if any, are getting after you for the final score, you're absolutely right, if they can't stop you, even after subs, that is indeed tough ****. The fake punt is the problem.

Boy, the pontification on this thread from some is truly humorous. Southern once lost to Florida 62-14. There's no crying in football! And those who have left or are leaving the SB remind me of the immortal words of Mickey Thomas, "Don't let the screen door hit on your way out". 04-rock

It does seem this thread is going in circles at this point, most everyone in the thread aside from GaSo fans feel the fake punt was a chump move, most GaSo fans see no problem with it.

Is there anything else from this game that needs to be discussed?

I can see your point of not running up a score & have always been in a quandary over the situation that has ben described. GSU has had the score run up on them by SEC teams and I suspect that when we play Florida the same will happen in that game. In the 80s the Miami hurricanes really stomped us into the ground.

I once heard that Lou Holts dressed his friend Bobby Bowdon down when the score got out of hand when FSU played William & Mary. Bobby told Lou you signed up for the game and it was the responsibility of your defense to stop us.

I tend to agree with Bowdon which you may not. GSU tried different things in this game using their second string QB & the chips fell our way. If it’s any consequence to you I thought you defended our triple option attack in the first quarter. You also may have your revenge when we play Florida. As I stated if they run the score on us it falls on our coaches and players to stop it from happening and they know it & our fans know it. I know that many would disagree with my stance on this matter, but we all have our own opinion.

I hope SSU does well the rest of the year and under your new Head Coach builds a power house that will allow you to compete for the MEAC crown and a playoff slot.

RE: Georgia Southern 77 Savannah St. 9
Pit75 - I remember SCSU coach Willie Jeffries having a 60-point lead on a team going into the 4th quarter and telling his team to run everything between the tackles and to not score again. He even had his defensive captain tell the opposing coach what he was doing. They even had a third-string running back run out-of-bounds at the 5 yardline on a long breakaway scamper on his own because Jeffries demanded that they not score again. Why try to embarrass a team that is already beaten?? That's class.
And like you said, we all have our own opinion of this...and that is mine.

TALON - I do not except Coach Willie Jefferies decision not to score again. You have coached your 3rd string players to be winners; they have busted their butts in practice along with the 1st string but rarely get to test themselves in a real game and to ask them not to excel & execute to the best of their God give abilities does not sit well with me. If the opponent can’t stop your third string then they probably shouldn’t have signed on the dotted line.

Was it RUTS? Probably. Was it "classless" as some on here with their own coaching issues have said? Absolutely not. I would put CJM as a person and a man up with any coach in the country. When taken in the context of the actions of some of their players and band and the disrespect shown, I have no problem with what CJM did.

One final note from me on Coach Monken. One new tradition or symbol he brought to Ga Southern is the Black Flag which is carried out ahead of the team by a player chosen by seniors for his dedication in practice the previous week. The Black Flag is simple "No quarter taken, no quarter given." The players on the field field will give their all on every play from start to finish or they won't be Eagles for long.

No one in Eagle Nation cried a bit when Nick Saban passed for a TD to make it 45-21 in 2011 with less than 2 minutes left. Coach Saban understands he was supposed to beat Ga Southern handily and he made his starters play the whole game from start to finish.

In fairness, us running that fake punt allowed more clock to burn. We were running the ball every play and letting the clock wind down. SSU kept throwing incomplete passes and stopping the clock. The game took a lot longer than it should have because they dropped so many balls. They would barely use any time on their possessions.

OK then, good luck when your players get an 18 word resignation letter taped to their lockers.
