Time Warner reaches deal with LHN
Time Warner still doesn't have a deal to have CBS and the Cowboys on in Dallas, but did reach a deal with the LHN:

http://blog.chron.com/sportsupdate/2013/...n-network/

"The Time Warner deal, along with previously announced deals, gives LHN carriage on the dominant cable carrier in most major Texas markets save Houston, where Comcast remains along with DirecTV and Dish Network the only holdouts among the nation’s 10 largest distributors to carry the ESPN –owned network. LHN is available in Houston on AT&T U-verse and in Spring on Charter Communications."

Time Warner reaches deal with LHN
Could Time Warner be making a big sports push? I noticed last night the Pac 12 Network, NHL Network, and Fox Soccer Plus are now in the channel listings. I don't know if they're available for purchase yet in the former Insight markets, but it appears to be headed that direction.

Can this deal make LHN a viable/successful long-term operation? Do Texas fans think that it will be?

It was already going to be successful for 20 years, at least from the UT financial standpoint. Beyond 20 years, who knows what will work? There will almost certainly still be a Longhorn Network, but the form may be very different.

As for coverage, it seems likely now that people will be able to get it. If Time Warner is signed, Comcast or one of the satellite companies will sign which will mean virtually everyone will have access. There's internet rumors that the Dish/ESPN contract expires 9/30 which would be when ESPN has the most leverage.

So ESPN voluntarily binds themselves to lose millions? Come on buddy, there's a point where the logic runs out. They are the MOST profitable arm of the Disney empire, surely they know their business better than random fans on a message board.

Only the tin foil hat crowd can assume that ESPN had NOBODY run the books on it. Seriously, think about how silly it sounds for it to be otherwise in any successful business.

The viewership was never intended to go far outside of Texas on any expanded basic cable tier and with the largest in-state cable provider now on board it's looking pretty positive for it's chances of success.

And its taken about as long to get broad coverage as the Big 10 network did in a better market for cable. And that without DirectTV owning a stake, which helped the Big 10 network get coverage.

The Pac 12 learned from that and signed everyone except DISH (or DirectTV-forget which) up before they launched.
