If History Could Only Repeat Itself
With permission from the Rice Athletic Department, here is a post that they made to their Facebook page:

What a great clip.
A few things that struck me. Maybe because we'll never see them again..
72,000 fans attended the game!
Obviously natural turf ...in bad shape at the end of the game.
Our guys looked just as athletic as the Ags.
In celebration of winning the game...the students staged a lockout of the profs the next week!

Very nostalgic.

1957, 1980, 2013? It took 23 years to repeat the upset in 1980. How about 33 years this time round? 03-cloud9

Thanks so much for the video. Still the best football/Owl game I have ever seen. Amazing that so much of that game still is available in my mind. The fact that the video is in color is even better. Still my favorite Owl uni.

RE: If History Could Only Repeat Itself
I did find it somewhat bothersome that when I requested the Athletic Department to post it here on the message board in addition to their facebook page for Rice fans who "like" them, I was told that they don't follow the message board but I had their permission to use it. Perhaps if they did monitor this message board they might make better decisions as to marketing, promotions, etc. of Rice Football. I'm certain more Rice fans of football read this message board than are fans of the Rice football Facebook page.

There wereRice victories between 1957 and 1980 including games I saw in Kyle Field in 1972 and Rice Stadium in 1973. I think we were the underdog in 1973.

IIRC, the first clips were from an episode of the 'Eyes of Texas.' There was also a clip of the Chief of HPD holding a press conference to tell fans how to avoid traffic jams going to HRS.

'69, '70, '72, '73

The first three were "before my time".
Thanks for prodding me to check.
[This only adds to my "what if?" horror about the Halftime of Infamy, which was originally planned for the '72 game.
If we'd done that there and won?
*shudder*]
