That was a good game. Utah made some gutsy calls and their defense played strong in the second half. Utah State has a heck of a QB and the new coach didn't manage his team like a new head coach.

Fun game to watch for sure.

I'll take it. It took a while to get our feet back after losing our #1 receiver (season) and #1 RB (?) on the same 1st quarter play. Chuckle Keeton is a great college QB and will keep USU in any game if he can stay healthy. Because USU leans on him so heavily, he's not likely to stay healthy. People should do themselves a favor and watch him versus USC. 400 yards of offense for Chuckie with about 250 of those yards coming after miracle escapes from would be sacks.

Fresno's a good team. No shame in Rutgers traveling across the country and losing by a point in OT.

Yup, good game. Probably too close for comfort for Utes fans, though. Utah has FCS Weber State next week, but after that they don't have any gimmes until their last two vs. Wazzu and CU.

Yup. It sucks not having Cal on the schedule this year.

On the road, better off trying to win it with a PAT. Roughly 50% chance of success.

Too bad the AAC didn't have the foresight to invite Fresno in the West. That might have kept BSU and SDSU in the conference.

Pretty easy to be better than two schools that don't have teams!

Hofstra does have a team. Marques Colston, wide receiver for my beloved New Orleans Saints, played there. I didn't realize that Drexel no longer played football, though. Wow, I just looked it up and they haven't had a team in 40 years! Shows what I know about the Colonial. Sounds like a good fit for UConn.
Hofstra doesn't have a team anymore:
"On December 3, 2009, the university announced it was terminating the football program. Under NCAA rules, any football players who choose to transfer to other schools will be eligible to play immediately, and not subjected to normal residency waiting periods. Scholarship-holders who wished to stay at Hofstra were permitted to keep their scholarships.[15]"

Well I'm a bona fide 01-wingedeagle then. 04-cheers

I'm sticking with UConn should be playing them though. 03-thumbsup

The Colonial's current lineup is:
Towson - just beat UConn
James Madison - beat eventual ACC champion Virginia Tech in 2010
William & Mary - beat Virginia in 2009 and lost to UNC and Maryland by a combined 5 points in 2010 and 2011
Richmond - beat Duke in both 2011 and 2009
Villanova - beat Temple in 2009 and 2003, and Rutgers in 2002
Stony Brook - beat Army in 2012
Delaware - beat Navy in 2007 and 2003
Maine - beat Mississippi St. in 2004, lost to Pitt by 6 in 2011
New Hampshire - beat Rutgers in 2004, Northwestern in 2006, Marshall in 2007, Army in 2008 and Ball St. in 2009
Rhode Island - annual doormat, but lost to Syracuse by only 7 in 2011 and lost to Army in OT in 2007
Albany - has never played a FBS team (so they're undefeated)

Collectively they beat a FBS team almost every year.

Uh the PAT wouldn't have won the game. Rutgers would have had to score another TD afterward and then try and stop Fresno which they had no success at doing in the fourth Q and OT. Once Rutgers scored I said they had to go for 2. Their D was done and had no chance of stopping them from the 25.

Meant go for 2. Pre-coffee posts don't count

A Kentucky fan, really, you guys suck more than UConn.

Got to admit, I like Rutgers scheduling. They've gone on the road to Arkansas, UNC, Tulane, and Fresno over the past few years.

Reminds of the old days when some programs would use early season to play inter-sectional games. Very old school.

Listening to College Sports Nation this AM, the UConn loss is weighing heavy on the AAC, mainly from the Louisville angle. Bottom line is the Cards could have a great season but be negatively impacted by its strength of schedule.

That's true, the chances of a potentially-undefeated Louisville team playing for the BCS title will go down every time an AAC team derps a winnable non-con game. But, going undefeated is hard no matter who you play, so Louisville needs to think about their opponents and not how their opponents do in their other games.

you would think that would be the case.....but its not. id call it 5x the misery.

-3 of them all got trainwrecked at around the same time by a total of 5 coaches. do i need to mention john embree's 4-21, greg robinsons 10-37 & rich rods 15-22

-i had the pleasure of seeing greg robinson being involved with the trainwreck at not one but TWO of them

-i watched michigan & colorado hire coaches who took a **** on what i value most in cfb. (tradition, playing with heart, & academics)

-you see colorado schedules ohio state and you first thought is "oh my god im gonna watch ohio state beat 4 of my teams this year"

-nw finally has a great coach but lost 7 straight bowls

-watching ohio state beat um 7 straight times and msu beating um 4 straight times

-losing to ohio state multiple times a year

-ohio state beating 4 of your teams in a 2 year window

-going 0-3 against bama

-and do i really need to highlight what happened at psu?

Bad coaching hires happen everywhere.
UMass is still recovering from theirs.
UConn is in the middle of theirs.

I don't know why folks think UofL is just going to walk through the AAC. They shared the title last year with like 3 other teams, who are all still in the league BTW. Watching last night I see Rutgers as a legit threat to them.

I agree with you, it won't be easy for the Cards.

I don't believe Louisville will go undefeated in the AAC, just pointing out the discussion by some of the taking heads - "same as it ever was, look where my hand was" . . . .

I think Louisville needs a strong AAC almost top to bottom if it expects to crash the BCS. A team that runs undefeated in the MWC or maybe even the MAC could make UL's life pretty miserable.

No shame in Rutgers losing to Fresno like that (well, other than RU looking like a school with no defense), but consider UL's games against UConn and RU that much less impressive.
