RE: Other CFB games Week 1
I don't understand this, it could be that the different teams are all in different stages of their transition. According to this link on ESPN http://espn.go.com/college-football/teams
ODU is FBS independent (FBS)
Georgia State is in the SunBelt (FBS)
App St. is still in SoCon (FCS)
Georgia Southern in still in SoCon (FCS)
Charlotte is FCS independent (FCS)

The ESPN article here says 7 wins by I-AA over I-A. I see people saying 6, 7, 8...
It's eight. Espn even says in the article that there was an eighth victim, ga state, but makes sure to throw in that they're still in their transition period. They're not Fcs, so what are they? Fbcs? Whether you want to acknowledge it as an eighth upset is up to that person's opinion I guess, but I choose to take it very literally and they're classified as fbs.
But then shouldn't it be nine, since Montana beat transitioning App State? Why does the NCAA recognize Samford over Ga St but not Montana over App State? Is App State still eligible for playoffs this year and considered FCS?
Yep, what hburg said. In 2013, app state is Fcs. Odu is Fcs. if they beat ecu it would've been another upset. I don't believe app and ga southern are playoff eligible.

Espn is incorrect. Odu is fcs. I think a bunch of their fans emailed them and convinced them they were fbs. Espn just changed it without doing their hw.

According to the NCAA, ODU, AppSt, and both GSU's are all in fact FBS (as reclassifying)
http://stats.ncaa.org/rankings/change_sport_year_div (Click on Football, FBS, then any team category, like Rushing offense) You'll see them all listed at the bottom
As a side note, the NCAA has completely changed their statistics pages...going to take some getting used to.

Yes, they are incorrect, ODU is FCS and no, ODU fans did not email them

most fans are confused by all of this and just consider all currently reclassifying teams as being fbs as well. if that is the case then, montana beating app state is a 9th fcs upset this past weekend. by that same logic, jmu beat an fbs team last year 28-21. I believe their name is fake gsu.
so here's the answer. 9 upsets if you count reclassifying teams, 7 upsets if you don't count them.

No, Georgia State and ODU were both FCS last year, and both were eligible for the playoffs. (LOL for the former)

No, it's at most 8 if you count reclassifying. ASU and Ga Southern are like GST last yr, ineligible for conference title and playoffs but still considered I-AA. They announced in late March. GST last yr announced in April. Same timetable. ASU and GSU Announced nearly 2 months after signing date, so either not over 63 schollies, or not by much.
ODU "unofficially" announced May last yr, but officially announced June 1, so were eligible for playoffs, unlike GST. That means ODU's 1st transition season is this season, like ASU and GST. 1st transition seasons are considered I-AA, 2nd transition season considered I-A.
ODU I-AA 2012 and 2013, I-A 2014.
GST I-AA in 2012, I-A 2013.
App I-AA in 2013, I-A 2014.
GSU I-AA 2013, I-A 2014.
Bottom line is the only one of the 4 that can be considered I-A for this season is GST, which is a joke. Next year all 4 will be...

Yes we're both I-AA last season, but GST was ineligible for playoffs. They officially announced in April, ODUh not till June 1....

While I'm waiting on the JMU game I just thought I'd wonder what your thoughts are on Maryland winning 8 games now... after a 37-0 shutout of a WVU team that just beat OK State. Maryland has games remaining against Clemson(home) and @ Florida State but 8 seems like a minimum at this point.
