In 87 the Rockets lost to Miami 24 -13 and UT gave up two scores from turnovers. Jimmy was furious. The year before UT opened with Fla. St. with Dion and were beaten 21-0. I think both teams were highly ranked. Interesting games, time does fly.

I think Miami was number 3 when we played them. We got clobbered by, IIRC, numero uno Washington one year. Be nice to beat another Top Ten team.

No insult in that injury. That was one of the best teams in the history of college football:

Steve Emtman (DT) Consensus All-American, Lombardi Award, Outland Trophy winner,
Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year, 1st Team All-Pac 10.
Mario Bailey (WR) Consensus All-American, Pac-10 Offensive POY,1st Team All-Pac 10.
Dave Hoffmann (LB) All-American, 1st Team All-Pac 10.
Lincoln Kennedy (OT) All-American, 1st Team All-Pac 10.
Ed Cunningham (C.) 1st Team All-Pac 10.
Chico Fraley (LB) 1st Team All-Pac 10.
Dana Hall (CB) 1st Team All-Pac 10.
Donald Jones (LB) 1st Team All-Pac 10.
Lincoln Kennedy (OL) 1st Team All-Pac 10.
Head Coach Don James Voted Pac-10 and National Coach of the Year.

I understand that the previous year they had an OC that wasn't too bad either. 03-wink

I was at the Washington game. First play from scrimage Rocket Linebacker Tony Borgerding (sp?) intercepts a Husky Pass at midfield. I thought to myself "man, we're here to play, take that Huskies!" I think that was the closest we got to scoring all day and Rusty Hanna tried a 50+ yd field goal four plays later. Your list is also missing Napoleon Kaufman who had a good drink of water in the NFL. On one play, we stopped Kaufman on the far sideline and he pivoted, ran back clear across the field and up our sideline for a 53 yd touchdown. Amazing speed.

IIRC....thir QB's were Steve Brunnel and Billy Joe Hobart. The TE was Brunner who played for the Steelers.

I remember the game well...got hit so hard, that I got up looking out of the ear hole of my helmet. They had a great team...size, speed, athletic. We were overmatched for sure. Heck, I don't think Pinkle even prepped for the game. He basically told us we had no chance during our team meeting the Monday leading up to the game. I'll never forget it...1st thing he said was, everyone who travels will get a chance to play...we'll get the work in, blah, blah, blah, blah. I think a lot of guys lost respect for him after that. Remember, this was his 1st HC gig following up Saban. He obviously grew as a HC later in his tenure at UT.

I think the only other positive play was a screen to Vince Marrow that went for long yardage...of course I was the decoy on the other side and didn't get the ball 03-lmfao

Its too bad Iphones and facebook didn't exist back then... I would have posted him stating you had no chance to win to get him fired...

The Rockets had a real good chance to win that game... Next week I believe the Hurricanes destroyed Notre Dame and ended up #1 or 2 in the final polls... In a few years the Rockets and Canes will get that rematch...

In the Miami game I believe we started our third or fourth string QB due to injures. He actually performed very well. Two weeks before Miami defeated Miami of Ohio by 51 points. The next week they beat Notre Dame 24-0. We get credit for a moral victory by hanging tough with an awesome team.

He should have played the movie Hoosiers for your team
