As an average, that's not accurate. The average is closer to 3.6 points.

However, no 2 games are the same. So it is dangerous to your bankroll to apply 3.6 points for home field advantage as a default.

Some games, the advantage is more than 10 points. In other games, the "advantage" is negative. Knowing when the general public overvalues and undervalues home field advantage is crucial.

To expound, home field advantage has very little to do with atmosphere or crowd size. It's a measure of how well a team peforms at home against an average foe vs how well they perform on the road against an average foe.

In other words, it is a measure of how far Dr. Jekyll is from Mr. Hyde. The bigger the difference, the bigger the home field advantage and vice versa.
