Sad News for Rice Community-Randy Lee
Randy Lee, class of 72, passed away night before last from an apparent heart attack. Randy was an outstanding linebacker for the Owls and a good friend of the University and me. His son also played football for the Owls. Arrangements are still pending.

This is very sad news, indeed.
Randy was a good friend to many of us.
Thoughts and prayers with his family.
Do you know arrangements? I'm probably out of town (will not be at aTm for that reason), but still would like to know when info is available.

Randy was a classmate and a member of that outstanding freshman football class entering in the fall of '68. A great group of players, an even greater group of guys.

This is sad news indeed. Randy was one of the best of all of them. Will miss him very much.

I can still picture in my mind Randy and Dale Grounds roaming sidelines to sidelines in those "good ole days".

I express my sympathy for a great person of high integrity and an OWL thru and thru.

I can still picture in my mind Randy and Dale Grounds roaming sidelines to sidelines in those "good ole days".

That's a great image; I can just picture the almost-always-present scowl on Dale's face. Football ain't tiddly-winks, anyway.....

Randy's grin and Dale's frown.....

His son Mark loves Rice and is a great guy. Mark sounds likehis dad because Mark always played with heart and character, as well. I pray for their peace and comfort.

Two great guys that I have been privileged to call friends.

Randy mashed his knee at LB against SMU as a junior, then sat out the rest of the year after an operation, then returned the next year and moved to offensive guard. This was back in the days when O-linemen weighed around 220 on average. He was outstanding at both positions.

He was All-State at Port Neches. Great guy.

I don't wish to be morbid, but another teammate of Randy, anotgher member of that entering '68 group died last year; that was Jim Miller, Lovett '72. Jim didn't stay to graduate, but he was a force in the years he stayed around. He was a man's man. Here's Jim's obit:

My god, stumbled across another recent death among that awesome group of guys, another Lovett man, Cliff Hammond. Another man's man; weanies were scared of him, but he was a closet intellectual. Died at age 63 last year in Balmorrhea. Cliff's obit:
