Given the beating he took last year, and as a freshman, I'd say that's not bad.

12 interceptions sounds pretty terrible until you remember he had half of them in one particularly terrible game.

Sorry... still have a few of those in my system from that game.

Inaccurate. The most he ever threw in a game was 3. He did that twice.

The most telling stat is the 36 sacks that caused him to single-handedly lose 2 and a half football fields worth of yards last year. Not sure how many fumbles he had.

Fair enough. Half of them came in two games.

I assure you I'm aware of the sacks. "Get rid of the ball, Austin. GET RID OF THE BALL, AUSTIN! Damn it, you've got to get rid of the ball, Austin." Was a familiar refrain in my section.

I attribute that to three things.

1. A green quarterback.

2. A green offensive line.

3. He hadn't played a down of live ball in over a year, and the last time was against high school defenses.

I imagine the clock in his head runs a lot faster this year. At least I hope so. That and a more experienced line, and solid running game. I'd be really surprised if we didn't cut the sack total in half this year. Maybe even better.

How in the world do you get sacked 36 times in a season?

And I don't put 100 percent of the blame on Brown. The offensive line and running backs have to take some of the blame too. But more than them, how do the coaches not make some sort of adjustment to cut down the sacks?

Well, you aren't allowed to recruit new O-linemen in mid-season.

I think McGee taught the guys to play the way he wanted them to eventually play, even if it hurt us last year because they couldn't do it. The payoff is now when they can play that way and not get beat (I hope).

Yep. Growing pains. That's why AB played almost every snap when he was moderately healthy. McGee wants a 4-year starter who will be in complete command of the offense by 2015, if not sooner.

I guess you should go tell the guy being paid to coach a D-1 football program this. You clearly know something he doesn't.

I think JP has in large part dug himself out of whatever hole he was in, and I think this job is up for grabs from series to series. And I like that. It might be nice to have your starter on the sideline every now and then, where he can watch what the defense is doing and be coached in real time any time rather than having to wait until halftime for major adjustments and then not having another opportunity after that.

Really. I thought most coaches wanted their QB in the game anytime they are on offense because he is the leader of the team. I've never heard a coach say he wants his QB on the sideline. I wonder if the NFL knows this strategy. 03-lmfao

The Vikings keep their best QB at WR.

This strategy isn't unheard of for developing QBs. Obviously a certain level of development is already expected for NFL QBs. But there have been college coaches who put in the backup QB for the third series of the game so that the starter can observe, learn, and prepare for the next drive.
