Unofficial 2014 FB Recruiting Thread
I'll get this thread promoted to an important thread.

We can add info on our 2 verbals to date.

As the 'anchor' for this thread, I like the idea of having MAC recruiting ranking from 247sports.com.

It will indicate the number of our verbals and the same for our MAC competitors. With one or two clicks one can see a lot of information on our verbals and targets.

Might add that if one 'drills down'' on Gary Hosey one will find a complete timeline with incredible specificity.

Hosey got a lot of attention from other schools both MAC and B1G.

Looks like a prime recruit for EMU.

This is the MI h.s. top 20 seniors selected by the Detroit News.

I have never seen the MAC score so many verbals from so highly ranked prospects.

WMU (2), EMU (1), Toledo (1).

http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20130.../308270015

Very impressive.

EDIT: The Detroit Free Press list gives the MAC less love...

And verbal #3, a defender, and also from the STATE OF MICHIGAN:

https://twitter.com/TheD_Zone/status/372568021648547840

http://www.emurecruitingnews.com/

"Mitch Stanitzek 6'4'' 220 DE West Catholic HS

Mitch is a DE who only had D2 offers in till June 15th. That's the day when the Eastern Michigan Eagles offered him a scholarship. It is his only D1 offer still at the Moment but probably not for much longer. The coaches have stayed in contact with him Coach Burpee to be exact, his dad has also talked with coach English a little bit also. His best strengths are his quickness and speed he uses when getting around the opponents. He will be visiting Miami (OH) and Northern Illinois sometime in July. He also said that Western Michigan invited him to there camp at the end of July.

Great recruit, it may be hard to keep this kid because others will be coming at him like a freight train.. Checkout his video. I hope he will do like our other key recruits and honor his verbal.. I am sure that it will help us with having a 4 year DE now playing for the Green Bay Packers as a LB'er

RE: Unofficial 2014 FB Recruiting Thread
Scout observed him in a scrimmage and showed well as a TE also. By the way, West Catholic is in Grand Rapids.

West Catholic

"Senior tight end Mitch Stanitzek, currently holding an offer from Eastern Michigan, had a good showing. He plays both sides of the ball, but in this limited sample, we saw more of him as a tight end. He is used in a variety of ways. He will play in the slot and on the line at times. He's a good athlete who caught the ball well and looked good as a blocker. "

And more. Perhaps he will be a TE for us:

Dear Friends,
Mitch Stanitzek just verbalized to Eastern. On the Scout.com website. Sorry Pudge didn't read your thread very carefully. Looks like a good tight end with hands.

If I were in Detroit I would go to this game at Wayne State Friday night:

"Cass Tech vs. Southfield at Wayne State, 7 Friday. This is a bigger game for Southfield than it is for the two-time defending Division 1 state champs, an opportunity for Southfield to legitimatize its program, which has been on an upswing for the last several years. It will be interesting to see how defensive linemen Lawrence Marshall and Malik McDowell try to disrupt Cass QB Jayru Campbell. Southfield better not forget about RB Mike Weber. Momma Cass 26, Southfield Freeway 20."

Gary Hosey will go up against DL's who might be B1G stars in the future. McDowell and Marshall are two very good ones. McDowell #2 in the state while Marshall #4. Marshall is headed to Ann Arbor.

Remember Hosey plays both offense and defense.

I'll try to get more info on the D-I prospects and post.

This should be a great game.

I expect to be out in mid-November for the beginning of the hoops season so I'd love to see the MHSAA FB playoffs.

Here is a great article on 2014 commit Ian Eriksen. I wonder how his smaller frame and build (5'10'' 190 lb) will hold up in the MAC.

Would it be fair to say he is not small but "short" for a FBS RB?

Apparently strong and good quicks. That could make him pretty tough.

Wonder if he'll try to get his OL Matich to decommit from WMU?

I remember a RB from out East in the 90s who had unbelievable stats.

However, he didn't have good speed and didn't have a great career.

Interesting but I checked Dom Scherer and he was listed at 5' 9", 201 in the EMU media guide.

Ian shouldn't have a problem.

I was watching the Kent State game on television last night and wonder if we'll ever get a FB in the 235 - 250 lb range??? Durham is a load.

RE: Unofficial 2014 FB Recruiting Thread
Just got back from the Cass Tech/Southfield game. A buddy of mine works for State Champs and got me onto the sidelines with a press pass. Here's what I noticed:

-Gary Hosey is a tank. Just a huge body that is tough to bring down. His running lanes weren't really there tonight (Southfield probably has the best d-line in the State), but you can tell just by watching him that he's a load. Will be a great short-yardage back for us.

-Hosey also played exclusively on offense. Don't think he took one defensive snap the entire night.

-He's also their kicker, and bombed some kickoffs.

Honestly, he was held in check most of the night. Outside of two plays, Southfield's defense completely outplayed Cass Tech. Cass was extremely fortunate to come away with the win. Southfield's offense had some head-scratching turnovers.
