No word yet. They have not finalized naming rights yet.
The only consistent word is they have been talking to one of the many energy companies (could be global or local) with a major presence here in Houston.
They probably will announce something in the spring just before or just after our pick a seat preview for season ticket holders, but that is pure guesswork on my part.
What happened to Houston? I realize they were dumped along with TCU, Rice, SMU, etc., but IIRC correctly Houston had some good football teams in the 60's, 70's and 80's. I know they had good basketball teams in the 60's, 70's, and 80's - any NC State fan older than a child would know that, but what I wondering about is what happened to keep them so dormant relative to TCU?

Visionless administrators will kill you.
I've always thought Houston should attempt to cultivate more of a relationship with some ACC schools, particularly those with Medical Schools. I fault our own past administration for not scheduling NC State and Houston in basketball and football. We had important football games back in the 60's and 70's, and the basketball is known.
ACC schools in general would probably prefer Houston to TT, TCU, and Baylor.
Doesn't matter if you guys do prefer Houston. The prize would be Texas and Texas is going to want votes to go their way within the Big 12 and unfortunately Houston can't help with that.
Perhaps Houston can hitch their wagon to go along with Tech though. How sweet that irony would be huh?

Nothing against UH, but I doubt UH gets a nod over Baylor or (possibly) TCU. I'lll give you TT, though. TT is wicked far away and has nothing in common with the ACC. However, I don't think that any of those schools would fit the ACC, so I guess this is all a moot point.
Actually if the ACC had to pick any non-Texas/Texas A&M school in Texas, my vote would be for Rice under the condition that they made a serious investment in their football and basketball programs. They have the right academics and they have the right baseball (ironic coming from a SU fan, I know). They also have the money and, like UH, about as good of a location as you can get in Texas for ACC purposes. That said, I'm still not supporting ACC membership for any Texas school not called "Texas."
Taking others though might be what is necessary in order to get Texas. I highly doubt you could get Texas alone. The mathematics just aren't there. Texas is going to want some votes in their pocket within the ACC.

Or special treatment, and I'm OK giving them a ND deal. Otherwise, if they would be happier in the current Big XII, then I am more than happy to let them stay there.

Also some of it was due to the fact that we were one of the first schools in the south to embrace integration, so minorities really felt comfortable comming to Houston over some of the other Texas schools. After the 90s this was not as big a factor. After joining CUSA, fans lost interest due to the fact that we were not playing our traditional rivals (Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor, TT, etc). We also had a couple of bad coaching hires in Helton and Dimel who tried to run pro-style offenses which are harder to recruit to. Helton mainly recruited Florida, which really pissed off the Texas High School coaches, and they quit sending their kids to Houston. Briles changed that and started recruiting Houston again and Sumlin continued. I think we are on the right track, but we are located in a Pro Sports city so we must win big to get any media attention here.
Not true, UH was good from 1976-1985. From 1986-1995, they had a losing SWC record. Tech and Baylor both had better records and better attendance.

I think the same. It's a matter of time, and probably not too long from now when the Big XII expands which could create another wave of schools leaving the AAC.
The short term TV contract was sold by Aresco as a good proving ground to better TV dollars in the future; however,it can also be viewed as a sign the networks don't believe the conference will exist for that long.
Depending on who leaves, the AAC will either lose schools to the MWC (Texas schools only) or stay in existence but pick up more CUSA schools and lose any "unprecedented TV coverage" as ESPN unwinds or significantly changes the current deal.
