Hey guys/gals--

If you want to attend the Annual Baseball Banquet on Saturday evening, November 2nd (immediately following the Alumni game at Reckling), you need to get your 2013 - '14 RBI Club gift in to Daniel Watson this week.

Chairs and tables will be set up on the field, and Gatlin's BBQ will be catering the buffet table. The "evening" events will commence one hour after the conclusion of the Alumni game.

Correction regarding the timing of the Alumni game and Banquet on Saturday, November 2nd...

The alumni game will start on 12:00 noon, and will likely end by 2:00pm.

The banquet is scheduled to begin at 6:00pm on the field at Reckling.

Sorry for the confusion.

Just a reminder-- tomorrow (Saturday, November 1st) there will be two events at Reckling Park:

1. 11:30am CST-- Alumni game (free admission)-- introductioins will begin at 11:30a, with the game scheduled for 12:00 noon

2. 6:00pm-- Annual RBI Club Baseball Awards Banquet (RBI Club members who have already contributed for the 2013 - '14 season)

BTW, season tickets for the 2014 baseball season just went on sale online at...

What is the status of upgrading the bats by the NCAA for more power? Will that be happening this year or research is still ongoing?

I've heard nothing about the bats, but the lower seamed balls called for by The OG will be voted upon this week by the NCAA Baseball Committee (with 80+% of the coaches in agreement), and will likely take effect for the 2015 season (i.e., after this coming season).

But as the article indicates, there's still an ongoing debate as to major v. minor league ball, lively core v. not-so-lively core, etc.

I meant to post this earlier. The RBI Dinner held at home plate. Each table had a championship trophy as the centerpiece.

According to the article, the MLB ball has a livelier core than the MiLB ball. And that seems to be the hang up now, not the height of the seams. A majority of coaches would prefer the livelier MLB ball but that has to be approved by an NCAA Rules Committee. So it looks like 2014 will be played with the same college ball we used last season. By 2015, the Rules Committee will have met and decided what kind of core they want to put in the new college ball. But unless they vote to go with a MLB or MiLB core, it'll be a college core ball with a low seams stitching.

While the coaches would prefer the MLB ball the issue there is the cost of it over the MiLB ball. MLB balls are made by hand in Costa Rica whereas MiLB balls are made in China.
