I think WVU does the key jingle thingy too. I LOVE observing other teams' traditions and I try to respect them but I have never quite gotten that one. Someone once told me that they do that to signify that a "key" play is about to take place. I have no idea if that's true or if the person who told me that was just making fun of the Hoopies but if it is true, that is some dorky schitt.

Chris...unfortunately when I see the students on camera they are not screaming..they are either jiggling keys or sending texts on 3rd down. I hate the key thing, JMO.

Mark,
Thanks for asking.....

1. Before every game we sing "My Ol' Kentucky Home"

2. A trumpet player from the UofL Band does "The call to the post" (Those not familiar with the name might know it as the trumpet call played before The Kentucky Derby.)

3. During the game our PA announcer Sean Mott will say, after a gain that gets a first down...
"That's good for another" ....And the crowd will finish with "Cards First Down"

4. After every win the team circles the field shaking hands and high-fiving the fans. This started nearly 25 years ago in 1990 when Louisville beat Boston College. The team promptly went to the front row of the fans that had been exceptionally loud during the game. The players recognized the fans for their support, and since then after every win, the team does the same.

5. Sometimes The Cardinal Bird para shoots into the game dressed in Army fatigues to deliver the game ball. (Weather permitting)

6. Louisville is the only college team to ever wear the American Flag on its helmet. No school logo just the American Flag. Lee Corso did it during the late stages of the Vietnam War. Our teams honor this tradition by continuing to wear the Stars n Stripes Cardinal logo for special games like those on or around 9/11.

7. Whenever UofL scores A touchdown a train whistle sounds. It is the same whistle that directed employees of the old rail yard that Papa Johns sits on to work, breaks and lunch. It is our way of paying homage to those who came before us.

These are all I can remember. I am sure other Cardinal fans can add more.

We also raise our hands up and down in a kick blocking motion when the other team punts.

They play a turkey gobble through the speakers when the crowd noise needs a boost.

They serve turkey legs by the 1000's cooked on 1/2 80 gallon can grills.

The students sit in the north end zone and are usually the ones to start the wave. That's not every game though. Usually just when we're facing an outmatched opponent.

There is a walk through before the game when the players and coaches are walking to the locker rooms were 1000's of people line up and cheer.

Our band used to play a lot of cool songs like "stick it in" and "I need a big T D" before the president banned them because the gyrating motion of the band was not fit for TV or family viewing. There used to be a renegade band that would let up in part of the stadium and duel with the regular band but I think that has gone by the wayside.

We have fireworks after every touchdown and flyovers 2-3 times a year.

RE: Football Traditions in the ACC
I've been to a lot of Clemson home games in my lifetime. I like the run down the hill onto the field, and the last couple of games I've been there they released a bunch of helium balloons as the players started down the hill.

One of my favorite memories was back when Danny Ford was coaching Clemson and Bill Dooley was at VT. When Clemson lined up to run down the hill, the Hokie players were waiting for them at the bottom of the hill giving them the "bring it on" gesture. (VT upset Clemson that day).

I've seen Duke fans do the key thing but not for "key" plays. At they beginning of the game they are taunting the opposing fans with their BMW, etc. key rings. At the end of the game it means, "crank up the bus because this game is over!"

What if you only have one key on you? I think the days of jingling keys might be going the way side?

The ESSO Club sports bar. Once voted as the #1 college sports bar, its within easy walking distance from the stadium.

86 Guzzle down a cold one on the deck of The Esso Club in Clemson, S.C.

If they held a national championship for college sports bars, The Esso Club would be our pick to win it all. This converted gas station on the edge of the Clemson University campus isn't a mecca of memorabilia. It doesn't boast 48 big-screen TVs pumped by a satellite system. You won't find dozens of premium beers on the vast menu. No, what makes Esso great is its history, its people. While the small town of Clemson's been in business 52 years, Esso marks 65 with the state's oldest continuous beer license. The bar top is made out of wooden seats long ago retired from football's Death Valley. The patrons are made of mettle-with iron stomachs. Every day, a bunch of locals with handles like Knight and Punk taste-test the beer in a niche dubbed the "Educational Corner." And you can set your watch by the yellow lab named Jeff who barks to come in and cool off after downing his 3 p.m. sandwich from the barbecue joint next door. Esso is also the birthplace of Spitoono, a "festival of the redneck performing arts" (think tobacco spitting and beer chugging) now held at a bigger nearby location. "Nothing much to Esso," says owner Ron Lee. Oh, but there is.

Clemson fans bring $2 bills stamped with a tiger paw to away games (especially bowls) as a way for the local vendors to see the impact of the traveling fan base.

Traditions of Clemson University in South Carolina

$2 Bill

In 1977, Georgia Tech decided to stop playing football against Clemson. In a show of protest, students and alumni stamped $2 bills with Tiger Paws and used them in Atlanta to illustrate the money Tiger fans spent at athletic events. Today, fans still use $2 bills when attending away games.

The pressure from the local vendors convinced GT not to drop the game.

The $2 Bill is a great tradition, IMO.
