Memphis and UAB need to play.
In the past I have stated it was unlikely UAB and Memphis could play each other in basketball because of the conference schedules. Memphis plays a lot of high profile OOC games, so I understood that the Bartow classic was over.

However, Memphis released their BB schedule today, and they play Division 2 Lemoyne Owen in the middle of January.

With us playing 2 non d1 teams and them playing one, there is no excuse that they can't get together for a home and home. Honor the greatest coach ever and raise money for cancer research. Shame on both coaching staffs.

RE: Memphis and UAB need to play.
I said it all along that these 2 teams should find a way to continue playing. Until the series started to even out(not overall, just in general), I'd even be willing to give them 2 for 1's.(I know how dumb I am for saying this.. I'll take a guaranteed high RPI game every year) There were many "reasons" why we couldn't continue playing. Looks like most of these didn't mean much.

It's a short drive for both. It's a good RPI game for both. It can really be played just about any time. Fans from both sides are interested in the game. It makes sense to me, but my guess is it's over for a while.

I'd rather play Memphis in FB as often as practical so that we might keep the rivalry alive. If Memphis does begin getting a lot more money from their new conference connection, it may not work out well for UAB in its present Alabama financial climate or its limited conference payouts.

I honestly could care less to play them again. Both schools have moved on.

I've always enjoyed the UAB-Memphis games, but I understand where Pastner is coming from assuming he made the call here and not Bowen. UAB isn't going to take a 2-1, and I imagine Pastner/Bowen won't agree to a straight home-home. It is what it is. Conference realignment has killed lots of rivalry games.

RE: Memphis and UAB need to play.
Memphis Blazer is right. Why play D2?
Memphis with Pastner is not the same as with Calipari. Good teams won't want to lose a game to a team loaded with talent, yet a poor RPI because The coach can't keep team playing together.
Unless this changes, Memphis will be that dangerous team loaded with talent that nobody wants to lose to. You could end up on the bubble with Memphis and get left out and Memphis just took your spot.

I imagine we will, in Tennis, Softball, baseball, and probably soccer. Not sure we will in Football or Basketball. In two years we won't miss this at all. And once our teams (fb and bb) are doing well, UM absolutely won't want to play us.

I agree with MemphisBlazer on this one. Both schools have NO REASON to ever play D2 games. Schedule the series back! ! !

Why would we even consider a 2 for one? Better yet why would Memphis even consider offering it? I would love to continue the series but if that is the attitude Memphis and its fans are going to take forget it. If Memphis feels like all of a sudden it is too good to play UAB home and home go jump in the river.

RE: Memphis and UAB need to play.
With Memphis going from 16 to 18 conference games and the AD trying to shoehorn in home and homes with Tennessee and Ole Miss, I don't see a Memphis-UAB home and home being a possibility for the next couple of years. Is Conference USA increasing the number of conference games now that they are going from 12 to 16 to 14 schools?
